I heard that too. It’s completely different than using them to find deer.

Best answer yet.

It wont ever be enough. True live sonar all around the boat isnt far off. It's going to get where you wont make a cast until you see a fish. The bigger problem is what it will do to our lakes. Part of the reason our lakes are getting tougher is the fish cant hide. That will only get worse.

It's becoming like computers. You can buy the latest and greatest and six months later it's outdated.

WHile amazing, I think too much is made of technologies. They are a tool, just like everything else in the arsenal. I use really expensive rods and reels. They don't catch any more fish than the cheap ones. I just like the convenience.

This topic always gives me a good laugh.

Here’s my opinion... the better electronics are only going to give a real advantage to the guys that are already at the top of the game, because it’s just another tool. The best in the world have the best tool, their brain/knowledge and know how to apply it better than the rest of us. Without that knowledge and proper application of it, better electronics are only going to make things harder for your average angler. It’s just the honest truth. The average angler is now going to be able to see fish in live action, 360 degrees around the boat, and just get frustrated when they can’t figure out why they can’t catch them. If you don’t know how to catch them with 2D sonar and a map, I don’t recommend spending the big bucks on the new stuff. Just my .02.

Good point...you still have to have the desire and knowledge to utilize the tech to your advantage. Read a story a couple weeks back where Rick Clunn has been mentoring a young pro. Turns out Clunn has benefitted from the relationship due to the younger pro's ability to communicate and teach Clunn some finer points of his new age electronics. I remember seeing Clunns dual console Glastron on Lake Conroe (many years ago) with 1 flasher at the drivers console. Saw it later in the year and he had added one to the bow.

the limit will be the expense for someone like me to justify paying top $$$ to put that tech on my boat.

I have always bought the latest electronics (every few years or so) and thought about buying the livescope and while 360 and enhanced sideview have helped at times, lately rather than dropping 5k at every turn if I just go fishing it works out most times. If electronics are ever the dictating factor in catching fish it will price out the majority of the fisherman out there.

I've had some of my best days turning everything off, and just fishing by instinct.

The technology will never stop advancing. I do think it would be cool to see a tournament trail where the angler was only allowed to know the depth.

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Something that I always thought was interesting was the fact you can't have a 3ft $30 stepstool in the boat but you can have 20k in electronics of every brand out there. I love sight fishing and I just see it as another tool. Either you know what you're doing when looking at them or you don't.

Dialed in electronics give fish nowhere to hide. Where will it be in 10-15 years? And will that advancement cause Fish & Wildlife to step in or at the very least the pro tours?

Drones, Side Scan/Down Scan, Liveview, 360, etc.. It obviously makes a difference because we have guys younger than ever dominating. Used to not be enough hours in the day to gain the experience It took to accomplish that so young.

First, you still have to catch them.

Second, if it starts to hurt populations, I suspect fish and wildlife will step in, just as they already can and do.
