I understand your concern was about the pet.

there is an organization based in Dallas which did a large study of urban bobcats in DFW about 10 years ago. They did not document any cases where a healthy bobcat attacked a domestic pet. I'm not saying it didn't happen or couldn't happen but it looks like it's pretty rare.

They did a similar studyon coyotes. It showed that they do have an affinity for cats but again they could not document them attacking domestic k9s. I'll try to see if I can find a link to those studies it was very interesting.

That study also showed bobcats living in nearly every neighborhood around here.
You may not ever see one but they are there.

Correct.

They are stealthy sons of guns. Camouflage extremely well and are mainly nocturnal. You can be staring right at one and blink and it's disappeared

They are also small. The first time I saw one I was a little surprised. I expected them to be bigger. But it turns out they're usually not much bigger than a fat house cat. Taller, but they don't weigh much more.

My house backs up to corps property and Lake Lewisville is about 1/4 mile away. We're overrun with coyotes and bobcats. I don't see nearly the number of cotton tails I did a couple of years ago when they were all over the place. I've lived here 25+ years and never saw a bobcat until a couple of years ago. With all the construction, they're getting pushed out and our habitat is now their habitat. They're not nearly as shy as they used to be and Fido and Fluffy are definitely on the menu now. There's a fire station about three blocks away and you should hear the coyotes at night here when they roll those trucks with the sirens blaring - really gets them going. Many more and much closer that you would ever imagine. My wife doesn't like it much, but I think it's cool.

You could be charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.

I had one in my backyard here suburbia about 10 years ago. It took one leap to the top of my 6 ft fence with no effort. I never considered killing it but I was a bit careful with letting my dog out at night for awhile

My sister and her husband would loved to have gotten a ticket for killing the Bobcat that killed their dog in their back yard. While my sister and her kids were in the back. Cat jumped on top of the fence and pounced in the dog. 5 seconds max, then back on the fence and out of sight. This was a creek on the border of Lewisville and Highland Village.the creek runs beside the Elementary school.

We have them in our yard every now and then. The last time there were 2 of them....looked to be less than a year old. Walked right by our front window while I was standing there. They did not see me.
Had one one the top of the shed at dusk staring at my wife and I will we were sitting on the back patio. One time I came around the shed corner and one was sitting about 3 feet away when we saw each other. I did not spill my beer.

They might be showing up BECAUSE of the increase in rabbits.
A few years ago we had too many squirrels around my house. I shot a bunch.
The hawks and owls almost disappeared after that. One of their food sources was in low numbers.
Leave the natural balance of things to nature...

They must be plenniful here in Grapevine. So bad, somebody set traps in the Parr Park area and got one.

It got loose and a game warden is trying to find/trap him per our Nextdoor here.

Urban Bobcat sounds like the gayer alter ego of Urban Fisher
