Would it be worth it to buy a 4-stroke 90 hp motor that does fine with unleaded gas replacing a 90hp 2-stroke for my old Ranger bass boat ? I can't find service for that motor and unleaded gas has screwed it up big time. The hull and electronics are fine as is the trailer. I know how expensive new boats are with livewells and at my age I can't justify buying one at over 20k. In fact since the old Merc died 5 years ago I've been fishing from boats I can load in the back of my p/u and doing very well on small local wind protected waters using a trolling motor and sonar.

I would say that if your boat is in good shape otherwise, go for it. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than a new boat.

I feel that you should do what you can afford if you are wanting to buy a 4 stroke because of fuel issues in your area you are going to be sorely disappointed they are great for fuel economy, not burning oil and they are a very qiet running engine but they still have issurs with fuel, expensive maintence parts and repairs

If I could afford it I would swap over to the 4 stroke just to be done with mixing fuel . Also the quiet engine would be pretty sweet . As far as fuel I go out of my way to get the Ethanol free fuel from Bucees or walmart . I had phase separation once and will try real hard to avoid that mess again .
