I would also like to poll the group on whether you set the bottom depth to Auto or Manual. How does Auto work for you?
FYI, my gain is 65 to 70.

I run my forward out to 50 feet when searching for fish the zoom it into 30 when I pitch to the fish. Gain is somewhere between 60 and 75 depending on water clarity

Until you get really good with it, I suggest Auto Medium for the Gain.
Set your Depth Range to just barely get to the depth you're fishing, but keep it as shallow as possible.
Set your Forward Range to the default on your screen and adjust as needed. When you get on specific fish, move it in to 20' range or less.
Having your Forward and/or Depth Range too far out will distort the size and shape of the fish you see on the screen. Inside of 20' on both will allow you to see the size and shape of the fish pretty good.

I run mine on high gain 65-70%. I prefer more noise and be able to see my lure, than less noise and looking for it. I have 2 modes for distance: 80' for search mode, 25' for vertical jigging.

gain about 75 and FV at 15-20 while fishing. I may bump it up to FV 50-50 and gain to 85 while searching,

I am factory default settings right out of the box. I only adjust gain, forward/depth range. Gain = 58-68 in average depth of 15'-25'. Deeper the depth, Higher the gain 30' +. Shallower the depth, Lower the gain 10' -. Forward Range = 20'-30' on average. When moving from spot to spot I may go further out. Shallow waters 10'-5' I may go forward to range 10' or less. Depth Range I tighten up to get the most from the water column. I bring the bottom of the lake just into view where I can see fish in the mud. These three things Gain, Forward and Depth Ranger are all I change constantly while out on the water. Here's what Josh Jones recommends:
TVG = low
Noise Rejection = low
Depth = set manually; do not leave on Auto
Distance = set manually; do not leave on Auto
Gain = 50-70% depending on water clarity (changes occur within the same lake)
If you don't know Jones, search FB.
Just about what David at Shut-Up-And-Fish recommended.
