A lot of people will look at this at this Picture and ask what happened. And I will answer that question later.

Part of me is embarrassed to make this post. And part of me is very proud of my clients and the few fish we have to show for the day. We battled a very long and hard day for these fish.

I’ll be honest there’s probably some guides or people out there that will say why did he even posted this. Because I try and be as honest as I can, with my small Business and as a individual person.

I will shut my business down and go broke before I Lie and tell someone to yes come on let’s go fishing when I know they are not biting or we’re not gonna do any good just to charge them and make money off of them. That’s not how I run my business or will ever run it. I work very hard at what I do. And this trip was no exception.

Ok, back to what happened. I tell you what happened spring time is what happened. Just to be honest a lot of people think spring time is the best time to catch crappie. It can be at times but it’s a time of year that isn’t consistent. You catch them one day and the next day nothing. That makes it hard on Guides and makes us a nervous wreck. On the plus side, it’s the time of year you will catch some of the biggest fish of the year.

Right now they is a lot of things going on in the lakes. We have fish transitioning from deeper water to shallow water, we have them staging, and roaming around. We have some that are up shallow that are making and are on beds right now. We have fish that are very spooky at times. We have fish that are very scattered and hard to find the numbers.

All this added together can make for a tough day of fishing. And that’s what we had on this day. We found very few fish and when we did find fish they where spooky and would swim off before we could get the bait down to them. That’s what happened on this trip.

I had my buddy Wendll and his girlfriend Pakize from Turkey and Ken out on Lake Palestine.

These guys have fished with me many of times. So they know I am capable of doing a lot better Thank God.

But with Wendell’s personality he likes to rub it in. I want to say thanks again to these guys for being so patient and working hard to get fish in the boat.

Their attitudes were top notch and kept me positive most of the time. The boat was still full of laughing and cutting up. They said they still had a great time. You guys are the best.
And I needed that , like I said earlier I work very hard at what I do. I was so nervous And worried on this trip trying to find fish that at times it messes with your stomach bad. Wendell please bring Pakize back when the fishing is better.

Anyway days like this happen. Do I like them know. But I promise if you fish with me and for some reason this happens, you will be treated fairly. And I will make sure you’re happy before you leave. You will be discounted or get a free trip. Just as this trip was.

As a guide that’s all I can do is be honest and fair with you. I can’t make fish bite or keep them from spooking off. I’m human all I know is to pray before every trip like I do. And take the 25 plus years of chasing crappie knowledge and apply to that day.

The rest is up to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

If you’re looking to get on a Crappie fishing trip right now. The best I can tell you our average trips are about 25 fish give or take. But they are big quality fish. The fishing will get a little better when they get to where they are going. If you’re interested give me a call.

I had my feelings hurt for several hours yesterday out there! Spent an hour chasing muddy water roamers with 2-3 fish to show for it. Then looked at a buncha empty brushpiles where I thought they would be and finally found some fish in deeper water! Didn't catch many but they were solid fish for sure! thumb

The flooding has LOP in bad shape so I fished Sandlin this last weekend. Had a fun 2 hour trip Saturday afternoon but Sunday was the worst trip I can remember. 3 fish in 5 hours of fishing. I ran all over the lake and just could not find any fish. I am worried about my trips this coming weekend for sure.

Mark, that was very courageous post for sure. But you will get way more return clients telling the truth up front.
I have fished with you and you are a very had worker and dedicated fisherman.
Plus you are a genuine person through and through.
My hat is off to you and I hope to get to fish with you again.

I would rather fish than eat and I stay hungry all the time.

Great post Mark.
February is the worst month for me to locate fish. Very hit and miss.

I caught zero crappie on sunday with bluebird skies. lots of rain and unusual conditions as you said. texted another guide who knows the lake way better than me and he said it was a tough day fishing.

no one likes to brag about those days but we all experience them (me more often than not since i'm not a guide).

Your story has humbled me and made me thankful for what I experienced yesterday. It was tough. I enjoy learning etc, but at times it can be frustrating. Seems the big thing to learn in my bucket is to have a better attitude.

Mark, I've fished with you before and will again. You being the person that you are is the reason that I will fish with you with no problem at all. May GOD continue to bless you and your guide service!
