I started using braid on my spinning reels and that eliminated the tangles. You can fish with a mono or flourocarbon leader and forget about the line memory. There are videos that show how to tie mono to braid which is easy with a little practice.
I still use mono on some of my other rigs but most baits will still twist the line so a very small swivel tied up a ways on the line from the bait helps as well.
Finding a line that is limp and still strong is key.
Forgot to mention, try closing the bail by hand instead of turning the handle to engage the line.
Seems to work keeping the loops from forming on the spool.
Takes a little getting used to, but after a while you do it without even thinking about it.
