I have a bunch of fish in the freezer, comming up on 2 yrs old, all in food saver bags. The fish looks like it did when I put it in there. Is it ok to eat?? Most is salt water fish, shark, snapper, talapia (sp?), king fish and some tuna I think.

Probably safe to eat, but it may be a bit chewy and bland - try thawing it out in milk. In answer to your other question, I believe the correct spelling is tilapia.

If it smells bad throw it, if it smells good, call me.
That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

The best way to freeze fish is to put the meat (fillets, etc) in a ziplock and then cover with water. Squeeze the air out and freeze. Fish frozen this way will keep a very long time; just ate some smallmouth from a Canada trip 3 years ago; they were great. And like someone else said; if they smell like fish - toss.

Freeze them like he said, except ad a teaspoon of lemon juice. It keeps them fresh.

Thanks for the lemon juice tip; that should also be a plus. I never thought of it, but it keeps fruit from oxidizing so ought to help prevent fish flesh damage.

Vaccuum seal, freeze in water or add lemon juice all about the same the thing that causes freezer burn is air in the package touching the meat. It casues the moisture in the meat to condense and freeze. Bottom line if you've got ice in the package and the meat around the ice is lighter in color the meat will taste like cardboard or worse. I've taken slightly freezer burnt meat and soaked it for a few hours in Italian salad dressing and it tasted OK. Trey Scott

Trey's right; they're all about the same and just think you can save $100.00 by just using water and a ziplock versus the high-dollar air sucker. Glad to help and hope all have, have had a Great Memorial Day Weekend.
