Wife wants to fish Toledo Bend mid-March....we have never been there. We would love to target blue gill and other pan fish.

It is, however, a MASSIVE lake. Any of you bluegill masters have suggestions for attacking TB? Not looking for honey holes, maybe which section to focus on....town to stay in, good launch facilities. Just looking to narrow the beam a bit, so to speak, to start setting up reservations for Mid-March.

We are dragging our boat from Rocksprings, so I will take any suggestions for other places along the way to wet a line....trying to make a neat road trip vacation with my wife and son.

The last time I fished TB was with my Dad when I was 14 years old. We caught a ton of bass. I would use some basic steps. Look for structure such as docks, bridge pillions, stick ups, etc. I would fish by structure in 16 to 20 feet of water. Also read your graph and look for brush piles, ledges, and rock beds that are holding fish. I would also ask the locals who fish that lake on a regular basis for any information. TB is a very big water body and I am sure it has some nice Bluegill. Best of luck and let us know how you do! thumb

Sean...Here is my 2 cents. I have only been to Toledo once in the early 1970s & it was to fish for bass. I believe march is at least a month early to hit a great bluegill bite, but since I don't fish there, don't know for sure. I looked for you tube videos & there are a few, so you might want to check them out. Look for articles on the internet, and see if you can find a local tackle store, or guide that has knowledge of the lake. Call them & see what they will share. I don't remember seeing a single post on the TFF that talks about Toledo Bend bluegill, so you probably won't find much help here.

Thanks for the replies everyone....I may not be able to make the trip after all due to work obligations. Thought I would get a few days off, but looks like it might not happen. Soooo, Vogey, I may have to wait until late April.....so a month later. Will just have to see.

May have to spend some time trying to catch 'gills around here til then.

Never fished TB and as already been said, I have not seen any sunfish reports ever posted here from TB!
