The water on this lake fluctuates so much.

Lake is fishing super tough right now. Main lake around Katies Woods was 50 both Saturday and Sunday mornings, warmed to 53 by the end of the day. The lake is at a great level for the high water ramp and the parking lot is still open, just a few of the first spots by the normal ramp are in the water. Ran all over the lake on Sunday to burn some gas, no floating debris or anything I noticed to be concerned about. I cant imagine this next round of cold weather and muddy water coming in will do anything but make the fishing worse. Only thing I could get bit on was a Talon jig fished insanely slow with repeated casts to the same spot.

Does that lake ever fish "good"?
I hear of a big fish here and there and sometimes a decent bite, but never have I heard it was actually just "Good"

We fished this last weekend. Never found water warmer than 50. Wasn't too stained going North but this last rain may change that. High water ramp at Murrell and Katies Woods in good shape. I can only tell you what they DIDN'T bite-black/blu jigs, a-rigs, chatterbaits, senkos, red squarebills, jerkbaits in most colors, 5xds, 6xds, t-rigged worms in most colors. Don't fish around main lake rocks, flooded brush or boat slips. Other than all that, you should do great!

I hear of a big fish here and there and sometimes a decent bite, but never have I heard it was actually just "Good" I fished it with a TFF celebrity two weekends ago and we had 8 keepers and 3 or 4 shorts. Best 5 went 21 pounds.

No fish of any kind in Grapevine. No need to bother Usually this is a joke, but in this case, its true. A Lifeless bowl of jet skiers is how my buddy described it... I think it fits.

I forgot to add one more lure to that original list of things that DIDN'T get bit.......carolina rig. And word of warning if you attempt it this weekend. If you find yourself laying on the back deck dragging a c-rig behind the boat, beware of the big rock just outside Twin Coves sitting in about 20ft of water. It will grab your bait with a vengeance and not budge. And if you're asleep on said back deck because you got so worn out from heaving an a-rig and jerk bait all day, be sure to push the button on the spool QUICKLY before it locks up and torques your rod around the outboard.

grapevine is a great big fish lake, 25 lbs isn't a guarantee to win. plus you have spots and smallmouth. if I were out there today I would be throwing a jerkbait and a big jig looking for one over 10lbs.
