No, I use Side Imaging at both locations since I want to see "other there" at both places. I rarely even use a Down Imaging view.
SI shows the exact same thing as DI, just more of it.

So do I. But I still use my DI to zero in on whats under the the troll motor before I drop a marker buoy.

Using DI will not "zero in" where something is other than if it is within the wide coverage of the DI pulses.

SI will show if it is really under the transducer or left or right. If a subject is directly under the transducer it is recorded on both sides like this:

Those two pics speak a thousand words to me. I have had a hard time understanding what I am seeing, that is now making it make sense.

Thanks, Wayne

No argument here but Maybe I`m not making myself clear but I agree with you about what SI sonar will do but for me sitting ,at the front of my boat after I have passed over a structure on my console unit becomes history because I have already gone past it because the SI transducer is in back of the boat. So when I see an object on my SI while i`m at the Console I toss a marker buoy out in the general location turn the boat around go up front and get on the troll motor and navigate back to the location where the object was seen and "ZERO IN" on it with down imaging sonar and drop a second marker buoy on the location and begin to fish if I like what I see. That`s why I have a DI Unit up front of my boat with the transducer on my trolling motor. It works for me.

If you can only have one tech gadget...make sure it is side imaging. Everything else comes a distant second.

You are going to like the Livescope. I have only had mine a short time and love it.

I received my new Helix 10 MSI about 10 minutes ago. I am waiting on a Transducer shield to mount the SI transducer on my jack plate and I still have to glue down the shoot thru in the bilge.

Good morning. I just picked up a Helix 10 Mega SI at Bass Pro for $999. This is the black friday pricing again. Call and ask if they have any (bought mine at Garland). If they don't, they may get more for the spring classic sale (2/13 i believe?). There are also several garmin echomap 93 pluses in the BP warehouse. they will be marked down again to $599 from talking to the BP guys. Also a great unit that is livescope capable.

Looking forward to getting it on the water. [Linked Image]
