I have a flat bottom 16.5' with 40hp mercy. Boat is really rough in choppy water and it keeps breaking my trolling motor which is a hand turn minn kota 55lb. It bounces so bad it just shakes things apart its broke the plastic head cover many times and recently broke the circuit board in it. Anything you do to stop this? I tried a bungy cord still bounces.

Maybe look at getting a “strap” like the Fortrex and Ultrex come with. It’s, basically, a 2” wide web belt, like a seat belt, that has Velcro ends. It wraps around the trolling motor, during stowed”, and prevents unwanted movement and such. Just might help.

You probably need two things to control it.
A brace under the shaft and a strap over the shaft to prevent movement up and down.

You can make a support/brace out of PVC and then to use a strap or bungee cord to hold it down.
