Makes me sad... That lake used to be incredible. Ill never forget the day in 2010 I caught 3 9 pounders in one day and still had never caught a DD.... those were the good ol days.

Just need the water to come up and stay up for a few years and it will be back.

26lbs with these conditions

North wind = major shutdown for Falcon fish
36 ft low = takes A LOT of big fish holding areas out of play & the netters pretty much cover up lots of the Mexico side of the lake
Not a strong shallow bite = the fat girl run to the shallows isn't happening YET
Temperature fluxuation = big quick 30-40 degree swings in temperatures the past 6 weeks
Moon = almost new moon

Lots of factors were against multiple giant bags IMO for this tournament.

There's some wolfpacks of giants cruising and getting ready to make their bed run.

Yep....used to be unbelievable. I fished it regularly from '07 until '13. That's the only lake that I was able to land a DD. Did it 3 times during that span and two of them came on the same trip in Feb 2012, 11.81 & a 10.55....gloryhole days!

Used to be 10-15 years ago you could fish Falcon all day and never see another boat, 30-35 lbs strings this time of year were no big deal. A shame to see what has happened to it.

Yeah, I bet this is the problem. rolleyes

I also remember fishing it 20 years ago, with zero boats in site and only 1 guy in our entire bass club caught a keeper fish in 2 days of fishing.

Thank you! I will. It may not be what it "once was", but it's still a dang good lake with better than average size fish. Just like Mother Forker. And I don't have to thaw my nads out in the morning if I want to fish at first light!

Falcon has always been a lake that would always bounce back after the lake would fill back up or at least gain several feet of water that flooded vegetation that was out of the water for a few years, and it would always turn it into a new lake.
Back in the late 70's and 80's when I fished our local club tournaments it was mostly by south Texas anglers, and every once in a while you'd bump into some folks from other parts of the state, and of course the out of state snowbirds.
Dec. Jan. and Feb. were some of the best times to fish Falcon between fronts, and you practically had the lake to yourself.
You could fish the tigers and maybe see one or two other boats, and on the Mexico side you could fish all day and never see another boat, and maybe a lone Mexican gill netter running his net.
Our greatest fear was the wind, and crossing the lake or breaking down over there. (no cell phones back then!)
We would get into big fish, and often would leave them biting and waiting until the last minute and just one more cast before leaving and racing back to make weigh in at the last minute.
Good times!

Just one more cast!

All lakes have highs and lows All of them !!!! Look at Toledo Bend right now . But I will bet in 3 to 5 years it will be back . And as for being crowded there is no lake in the U.S. that does not have more people fishing than there use to be .

We had a good trip. Long, but good. My partner was able to put together a good stringer. Needed another 1.03lbs to make it 20k... Can't complain though, made there and back home safely. 8 hour drive each way and fish for 8 hours in the middle of the driving. Now we may have to make the trip to Amistad next. Never been there. We will see. Thanks BassChamps for another great event.

Want some friendly advise? Quit while you are ahead.....Amistad will be much tougher fishing. If they start releasing water which is a good possibility before the event you can expect some really low weights and very few big fish....

WORK HARD.....FISH HARDER!

I appreciate the advice. But we've never been and have always wanted to plus we have free entries. Hopefully we could scratch out a limit. Only thing we would be out is our time and gas $. I also like to challenge myself, it would almost be like pre-fishing (which I despise, but we always catch fish). Might keep us up near the top for AOY also. Ya never know.
