That is strange allright. What caliber? Could be some thug that thought he would shoot the window to get in to steal some stuff and was not aware of what the noise would be like. They likely got scared and ran.

I know there are tons of different tests done by tons of different ballistics afficianados, but I read once where it was mostly a .45 that would have the energy to go through car doors reliably. It was mostly just due to the energy, which is due to the mass of the projectile. Like 230 gr. of lead is a better choice for shooting through doors and windows.

But, my son in law admitted to me that he and his dad and brother once got a 2x6 and put it on a chair in their garage thinking that it would stop a 9mm. Well it went through the 2x6, through the wooden frame of the chair, through the wall and through a kitchen wall stopping finally in an outside brick wall.

The casing looked large.

Yeah, at first glance I was thinking .45. I shoot a lot of .45 cal.

9mm. Casing looked very old to me, like it had been in the gun a long time.

Took them half an hour to get here, I called twice thinking I might have given wrong address. The first guy to show up was clueless. He didn't believe the hole in bottom of gate was made from bullet. The second guy knew it immediately. They didn't understand why someone would shoot my car and not take anything when there was stuff everywhere including a vault small case (for my new camera) that could be seen, my waterproof camera was in the passenger seat, 4 fishing rods (loomis, st croix, kistler, and falcon, calcuttas and sustain reels. It could have been a lot worse. That's why I was wondering if the person could have had that glass blow back in his face. Cops didn't give me an impression one way or another what they thought. Since they took no fingerprints, didn't have a metal detector to look for bullet.. who knows.

Looks like current steel from a manufacture like Wolf or TulAmmo. What was on the headstamp?

Pretty strange.

Could have blown back I suppose. They must have been high or really stupid or both. A spring loaded metal punch will shatter a car window with a lot less noise than a 9mm. The thing that would really pizz me off, had it been my truck is knowing that the door will never, ever be the same. The body shop won't get the paint right, the color won't match, the trim will never go back on the same, the window probably won't ever work right. Best bet is to have it fixed then dump it on a trade. I've yet to ever have any decent body work done on a vehicle. But I digress. Sorry. It will be okay.

One cop said person might have had a silencer right off the bat when I told him I didn't hear a thing, as if it was a common thing around here. OMG
