Putting a Megaware Keelguard on my boat most of the details I’ve researched say for diy installation follow instructions to the LETTER. The hull temp being 60 degrees for the adhesive to stick has me worried I’m doing it this weekend and I doubt my hull temp will be 60+ degrees as I am doing at my storage unit. Do you y’all recommend using a hair dryer or heat gun to heal with installation or am I over thinking it? I’ve seen some diy Keelguards peel after one season of fishing I don’t want to be that GUY. All comments are appreciated

Stick a heater in there and shut the door.youl atleast want the keelgaurd warm so it'll soften up.

The warmer the better and the heat needs to be consistent and not just directed to the keel with a heat gun. Having the boat up in a position to do the work is also a must. Don't thank you are going to be comfortable laying flat on the concrete doing this work while in a strain. Have good lighting so you can see what you are doing is also a must.

Agree with what has been said already but along with this advise I would strongly suggest you follow the prepping instructions closely. I ran a few strips of blue painters tape perpendicular to the keel guard to position it where I wanted it then with a pencil marked an outline of the keel guard. this way I could remove it, apply blue painters tape around the outline before I sanded and prepped.

It's a little awkward to do laying on the garage floor but just take your time and it's not that bad. I've done a few of them now.

Outlining with painters tape is a great idea.

I am a Megaware dealer and I have been installing them for 25 plus years or more.

I have installed over 350 units. It is very important to be over 65 degrees.

You can use a blow dryer but the keel guard and boat both have to be heated.

I do not like installing them in colder months just because of the temp.

Lake Fork Guide, how about installing the Hamby's? THey seem to be a better guard from what I have seen and experienced- needing one on my new boat and do not care to try it myself - have you installed any???

Be sure to work front to back and only peel the backing off about a foot or so at a time. Have something plastic that you can hold comfortably and use to "squeegee" or work the guard down and along especially if you have any strakes on the hull. You HAVE to get it worked down over strakes to prevent bridging. Any bridging will allow the coming undone of all that money and work.

When I did mine I backed the tires up onto 2" thick paving stones and raised the tongue jack up all the way and lifted it up another 2" on a paver. I had enough room to slide along on my back and do the work. CHOCK the tires good if you have them up on a block. You don't want the trailer frame crushing you if it rolls off your blocks from grabbing the frame to pull yourself along!!!

I laid an old blanket down to lay and slide on.

Bought my boat used that had one and it came loose and I had no choice but to rip it off and clean all the adhesive off. MAJOR PITA. The problem started at a strake.

Well I have not installed the Hambys but I have had 2 Hambys on the last two boats. My next boat will have a regular keel guard on it. I ran the regular one for 20 plus years on multiple boats with no issues . Less money great protection.

I know you already have your keel guard and I’m not sure where you are in Texas but you may want to contact Cliff Brown who is the owner at Texas Boat World in Harker Heights/Killeen. They also spray on Line-X bed liner material as keel guards. They call it Keel-X. When I ordered my new boat from them, they sprayed it once it came in. I think it cost me $400 or $500. I don’t remember for sure. They can do it in 1 day if you just schedule a day when you can bring it by. It is bulletproof and it still looks great 6 years later. I have seen some that are over 12 years old that still look brand new.
