Had the flu the past few days, so watched Lonesome Dove for the third of forth time. I still love the series, but some of the geography doesn't make sense. How did July Johnson and friends end up in West Texas? They met up in East Texas, then ended up in the Llano Estacado where Roscoe and the two kids were killed by Blue Duck. There's a lot of teleportation going on.

I noticed they were down in south Texas one scene and the next they were in the Panhandle.

That's a long drive in a pickup let alone on a good horse.

I could have bought stock in the production company that producded Lonsome Dove when it was a Penny Stock.................can you say I missed out. Broker hit me up for $2500 and told me this production company was going to produce the greatest western of all time. I didn't belive him.

Thanks, Billy

Too bad you didn't, but you still have a cool thing to remember. You were almost involved in the movie.

For those who don’t know it was based on a true story of the blazing of the Goodnight-Loving trail. Lots of facts in the movie with some Hollywood thrown in of course. The real “Gus” was really brought back to be buried in Texas packed in charcoal. The black man was really buried with the inscription on his tombstone to name a few.
A good friend I worked with was a double for Robert Urich since he couldn’t ride. He only was filmed up close sitting on a horse. David got connected with movies when he was an officer guarding real convicts used in the first part of “ Urban Cowboy “ in the Huntsville rodeo scene. He was a civil war re-enactor and had lots of period stuff so that meeting of movie folks led to him and often his equipment being used in this movie as well as Son of the Morning Star, Glory, and almost Dances with Wolves. He and his partner declined the offer thinking that wouldn’t be a very good movie. Bad choice! David was killed in a car wreck several years ago. I miss a good friend still.
