Keep in mind that there is still a federal prohibition both on marijuana and on gun ownership/possession for regular users of marijuana. Legalizing marijuana at the state level can become a backdoor gun ban (for pot users) as soon as the federal government is in the hands of bureaucrats who want to do it.

Yup. I wonder how long it will take these "Legal" States to cross reference the pot purchases with the database of registered guns...legalization has been passed in mostly anti-gun States. Coincidence?

My Brother in law lives in Illinois. He smokes a little now and then. He said in order to buy it legal you have to have a card. Once you get the card you can't own or buy guns. Sounds like he will not be buying legal weed. Leave it to Illinois to be the first.

I listened to an interesting conversation a week or two ago.
It seems that because hemp is now legal it's presenting a problem for law enforcement in testing what they confiscate. Many labs that test for THC are using a disclaimer these days. Seems that attorneys for the state are finding it harder to prove in court that what was confiscated from the defendants is without a doubt marijuana and not hemp. Could the legalization of hemp be the straw that breaks the back of the federal prohibition against marijuana?
Stay tuned. popcorn

Legal weed could make watching the Cubs at Wrigley more tolerable.

I dont believe that. Sounds like a rrrraanndddy gold coin tall tale.

So you get a card then they cross check to make sure your dont own guns? Who is "they"? What do "they" do if you do own guns? You turn them in? To who? By when? Who enforces it? Cant you just gift the guns to someone else?

Sounds like a story.

I did a little research, Medical Mary Jane has been legal in IL. since 2012. Those folks would still have a "card" and would be able to skip the lines versus those who are looking for recreational weed. There is no "card" required for rec. users..

However a single joint runs from $15 to $19.Costly smoke there!

Some counties in IL. have not licensed dispensaries over concerns about underage usage, traffic and crime.

However, those that were open (37 statewide) on Jan 1 had lines out the door and most owners felt they would run out of product in the next 48 hours as demand far out stripped supply.

Same thing would happen here.

Agree, the second amendment is a fundamental right of all USA citizens unless you have a history of unlawful gun related criminal activity, severe mental illness, and some juvenile offenses.

Even if you are on a terrorists watch list, you can still purchase a firearm.

There is a federal provision prohibiting gun ownership from those abusing alcohol or other drugs
So, if you get a DUI with a positive THC tox screen, then you might lose your gun ownership rights.

Most states that have legalized marijuana use have subsequently banned marijuana users from owning guns as a "back-door" gun control measure.

If weed is illegal then booze should be illegal too. Booze has way worse effects than weed.
