I was wondering how long do you think it would take to sour up some milo in this weather. if kept in the garage. my wife made me through out my bucks last summer. something about not being able to take smell in the back yard when she was out there.

I just soured some corn for hogs and it took about 2-3 weeks.

If you are in a hurry add a 6 pack of cheap beer to the grain. It will give it a boast on fermenting. Remember to add water when beer is absorbed.

In these temperatures it’s going to take a while to get really rank. My winter soured grain doesn’t get ugly smelling until about March. Until then, it smells more like mash. Not a bad thing, I suppose.

You can also put in a packet of bakers yeast. (found in any grocery store) Helps start and speed up the fermentation. It's best to have it out in the sun or someplace warm for fastest results. Without raising the temp, it will just take longer.

I had some sound milo but I hadn't been fishing so my wife made me toss it last summer. I have just never tired to do it this time of year. I do like wheat better then milo. but the grain store in killeen does not carry , Milo works just as well . yeast becomes inactive around 68-70 deg, so I am not sure how it will work in these lower temps. My thought is its not going to get to ripe this time of year anyhow.

I put a little space heater facing the 5 gallon bucket

Sit it in the attic and it will ferment much faster

Started mine about month ago it only gets better with time.

I picked up 2 bags a started it. Is just going to take a while I will just have to some tilapia and drift till its done. Never been very good at getting shad in the winter.

It ferments really fast if you pee in it

Has anyone tried using it without souring it? I played around with it last summer and I didn’t notice any difference on soured milo versus non soured. Caught the same amount of fish.
