Headed out to Lake Whitney on Monday afternoon and wanted to know if it would be cold enough for deadsticking? Water temps are apparently in the low to mid 60s so didn’t know if you needed something colder. If not cold enough, what’s the pattern?

Also, what kind of structure do you look for to deadstick?

I bet you can still deadstick or don’t be afraid to jig it and be a little more aggressive than deadsticking if it’s still that warm. Deadsticking seems to work best once water is below 55 degrees and the colder the better.
As far as structure underwater humps, points and river channels are always a safe bet. Generally fish will be migrating up the lake to flowing water as winter progresses but this time of year they are likely to be anywhere in the lake. A lot of times depending on the lake fish may care less about structure this time of year and I often find fish in the middle of nowhere and drift and thump to gang up the fish.
Good luck!

The water temp on Whitney Lake is actually 53-56 main lake. Maybe there's low 60s in the backs of creeks, but not main lake.

Structure is needed but also bait balls of Shad too. If the structure is not showing Shad balls I keep moving till I see Shad as well as structure. Old road beds work great also.

Anywhere creek beds intersect river channel mid lake north should hold bait. Be careful as most creek beds are surrounded by trees. Your electronics will tell you what depth to fish . Don’t be afraid to try and pull them out of tree tops moving or drifting is premium .

We got 1 solid fish in an hour and half. Wife was struggling with the elements despite the nice winter day. May try again tomorrow starting farther south and see if we can pick up on the pattern.
Water was in low 50s with a north wind 10-15. Fish seem suspended over deeper water near ledges/points. We used U rigs and couldn’t seem to hold the fish in a particular area. That said, I’d appreciate any additional pointers.

water temps are about perfect for dead sticking. Fishing was good early morning but the bite seems to shutdown before 10. I was expecting the bite to last longer today with the overcast and wind but they still quit on me late morning. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/01/full-77369-34907-snp0101205816.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/01/full-77369-34908-snp1221195707.jpg)

Moon phase says the biting major is early am @ 6:30 to 8:30 till next week . There is a minor biting forecast in the pm . Not an absolute , but another arrow in your quiver.
