I’ve had mine for about 3 months now. I was actually contemplating this exact question the last time I used it. I’m more amazed every time I turn it on.... it certainly helps to learn how fish react to certain baits and presentations. I caught fish for years without one and I like to think I could still do without a livescope but I sure do like being able to see how the fish react to what I’m doing on every drop.

Of course you can. We caught them before livescope, before sidescan, before sonar, but each advance just makes it easier and more fun..
Perfect response!

Thanks Ernest, for the nice response. I love the new electronic advances. Love them or hate them, they’re here to stay. Merry Christmas

I dont need it,....I have skills. and use minners. ` None of us NEED it, but it's so much more fun watching that fish react to your bait...and you still get to feel the thump!!

I fish out of a 15’ Aluminum boat w/ a 30hp tiller handle and have a striker 4 depth finder. I catch crappie 90 % of the time. Have limited out multiple of times. Can I compete with Tommy / Cameron on a daily basis - Definitely NO. But I do plan to upgrade boat and eventually have a live scope system when I have CASH to pay for it. But I’m I going to stay home till I can afford all that - Definitely NO. A buddy of mine always says “ I do the best I can with what I have to work with”

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

If I was running two guide trips a day you bettcha I would have livescope, like Cameron, Tommy, and Seth. And I have been out with livescopes plenty, and yes its a blast...but I'm OK using all the electronics I have... If I was 25 years younger I would probably have one for sure...

I would have one if I could afford it but since I can’t, I still catch crappie without it. I do think based on what I’ve heard people say that just using one and seeing how the fish react in different situations would probably teach a a person a lot that could improve their success even when they weren’t using one.

I couldn't catch them before livescope. You will get no argument from me Troy! So you bought a livescope, huh? So can you catch fish WITH it? Just curious...lol. Oh, and tell the missus I said hello!

Well, in a word...YES.
Now for the But...livescope represents an innovation in technology for crappie fishermen. As such, it is expensive, as any new technology should be when it first arrives on the market. And it gives us a real time sight window into the underwater world of crappie antics, from a very narrow beam. For the first time you can effectively, watch a screen, and see how the crappie are reacting to your jig presentation. And you can watch a crappie thump your jig, before you feel it.
I don’t own a livescope, but I got a couple buddies that do. First time I was introduced to livescope, ole TBox really hung it on me, catch wise, with that livescope. Now, that I have been properly introduced to it by crappieexpress, well I can sorta hold my own, despite not being the person moving that little beam pole around.
The thing that I notice most is that you can see exactly where those crappie are holding (what side of structure), and that it is sorta like watching a video game. Basically, you still have to fish, but you don’t get hung up on depth control, rather you watch your jig decend and close the bail, as you target a particular fish or school. Essentially, you watch the screen over your line/rod tip.
The question becomes, do you like it enough to spend the money, and learn to use it? If you are a guide or tournament fisherman, the answer is a resounding YES. If you fish a handful of times a year, the likely answer is Probably Not. If you are somewhere in the middle, like me (fish quite a bit, not really into new tech gear, got a lot of known fishing holes, got decent electronics, don’t need it for most of my fishing adventures) the answer is MAYBE.
Allow me to explain. I love it! I hate it! And I am waiting to see what future manufacturers are going to do to emulate it. Ok, so this tech is effectively second only to side imaging as being the best stuff to come along in modern times, (although I used a balloon tied to thread for finding crappie schools for years) so I love it! I hate it, because I spent good money last year on upgrading my front seat electronics, and I hate having to watch a screen all day, as well. Being a conservative spender of tech stuff (I just hate spending hard earnded money on gadgets that will go out of style with each new generation of gadgets) it makes sense to see what the new versions offer. Will I eventually end up with a livescope becomes the question. The answer is Probably So, unless something better comes along before I decide to pull the trigger. Honestly, I have been catching fish all my life without it...but I have to admit, it IS cool tech!
