Looking to try braid for the first time. Don't know anything about it. Can you please tell me the best kind to use?

depends a lot on what type of reel(s) you're using and the type of fishing you do most. For general bass fishing, like worming/Carolina rigs on a bait caster, 15-20lb test PowerPro or Suffix. For flipping/punching the matts, you may go as much as 60lb test. For spinning reels for bay fishing for trout/redfish, typically 30lb test works fine.
Don't cheap out on braid...they're not all equal. A decent braid can last several seasons too so take that into account when purchasing. (meaning don't get sticker shock)
You'll get a hundred different answers, but these are my preferences.

You're gonna get a bunch of different opinions on this. For me, I like suffix original and suffix 832. The original gets "softer" over time . The 832 has been great for flipping and frogging in 65lb. For chatterbaits, lipless, topwaters I've been using the daiwa samurai braid in 55lb and 40lb. Has the diameter of 10lb and 8lb mono.

Daiwa Samuri 65# test for throwing top water frogs because it is strong and very slick. Actually I think the Samuri is 70# test now that I think of it. Most other brands are 65# test but I think the Samuri is rated at 70. This line works very well fishing thick pads and grass. I also use this same line on my heavy duty punch rig for punching thick grass.

Suffix 832 for everything else because it is strong, very manageable, and it casts great. I use this in 20-50 pound test.

The least expensive Power Pro works very well. If you are going to put it on a spinning reel I would go with 15 or 20 braid. On a bait caster I would not go below 30. There is really no need to. Braid 30 has the diameter of about 8# mono

I would recommand getting on ebay and buying a spool of #50 power pro super slick original and using it I never had any issues with wind knots or anything just when you make your fish cast of the day put the tip of your rod in the water to get the braid wet!

And buy a good pair of leather gloves

Brand to me is not really important but if your going to put it on a baitcast reel I would not go with anything under 40lb test. That stuff will dig in on itself in the spool and nothing good comes from that when it happens.

get good braided line cutters

Just stretch it tight when you are ready to cut it. A good pair of scissors or fingernail clippers will work if you stretch it tight. I hold the tag end of my knot in my teeth and pull it tight. Good clean cuts if you do that. I like these because they are handy with the retractable cord but a pair of $2 scissors will work too.

These are the very best for cutting braid that I have used.

I also carry a short 1 inch diameter wooden dowel rod in the boat and wrap the line around it several times when I get something hung up. DO NOT pull on the braid by hand if you are stuck because you will cut your hand or fingers.

Good advice EJ. If you get hung up be careful pulling hard with just the reel too. You can warp the spool. I learned that the hard way.

Suffix 832. I just about gave up on braid. Power pro included. Now I have 3 rods ( flipping. Pitching and jig rods ) spooled with braid. Smooth.
