Out in Lamesa Tx, there is one on the North side of 180 that I would put up against any others I have had.

I really don’t care who makes the donuts, as long as the donuts get in my belly

I owned a Daylight Donuts here in Arlington from '91 to 2010. I am kind of biased towards Daylight. Having been in that industry for 20 years, I can honestly say I will never let a Krispy Kreme touch my lips. Shipleys makes a decent product, depending on the store and baker will result in the quality of donut you get. Southern Maid also has a pretty decent product. A lot of the shops now cut the actual donut flour with the cheapest bleached [censored] flour they can find. When I sold my shop, the new owner instantly started cutting all the donut flours by 50%. The flavor and texture of the product was shot to hell and this is why most donuts taste pretty much the same now. Nasty. I've been in my old shop probably 3-4 times since and every time the product is just flavorless grease bombs. I've found one little mom and pop shop on the East side of Ft. Worth that makes a very good tasting donut. Also, QT makes a pretty decent donut for a mass produced product. Their maple actually tastes like maple. If you want the most unhealthiest of donuts, eat Blueberry cakes and Apple Fritters. Just about anything that has the dehydrated fruits in them just soaks up the oil like a vacuum when cooked.

Dad would drive us 40 miles to Shreveport on some Sundays to Southern Maid. Five kids plus mom and dad. The box of two dozen donuts would burn your hands. He always went through the drive thru and bought 2 boxes of two dozen each. The first box was gone before he paid for it, the second box usually made it home.
Good memories.
