I have a Ray Craft V160 1986 model.16FT Bass boat. Last owner put a 1975 Johnson 115 HP motor on it. One cylinder went bad. Tag said I can go up to 120HP but I was wondering what HP motor might have been on it new. I would like to go lower because of price but don't want to go too low. Having trouble finding a rebuilt are a good used Johnson 115HP around here closest one rebuilt was in LA. $3500

I remember those models very well. Most had either a 90 hp or 115 hp back then. I'll look in my area for used also.

Be VERY careful about buying "rebuilt" motors, there are some very dishonest people selling junk Two you absolutely stay away from is Blackbird in Pennsylvania, customer brought in motor they sold, it didn't have one gasket on it, nothing but orange pookie. Captain Mac in Austin is even worse. A V6 merc he "rebuilt" was completely missing piston rings on three cylinders.
HINT: Nobody has EVER complained about putting a rated motor on their boat. EVER.

Yes it can be fixed. Thing is estimate $1,000 to $3,000 to rbuild powerhead. I had some say they could do the complete motor for that $3,000.

Well I'm in Texas and no one here will work on it they say it's to old. Cris in Slidell LA. has one a 1997 for $3500. Said completely gone through,To many I've saw were parts motor are no titles for over a $1000. Most think there used is worth as much as a new one.

Thanks for the help. I live near Cleveland and people here just don't want to work on it. Say it's to old.Don't use the boat enough to buy a new one. I don't even know a shop to get it bored and sleeved if the cylinders are scored to deep. The one I found is a 1997 Johnson in Slidell LA mans name is Cris. Dyer used to work at Pontchartrain Marine.

You know all the rebuilt powerheads on e-bay run close to $3,000. Would like a newer motor but not brand ne. To many dishonest people out there now days.

Nice and so is the price. Makes you wonder why he is selling at that price after being completely redone. Most I see around here want that are more for running when parked ten years ago. They're full of leaves and other junk.
