So the CO2 comes from leaves rotting in the lake. But if we did not have lakes, would the leaves stop rotting?

That would be the next problem to solve. Stopping leaves from falling to the ground.

We will cut down all the deciduous trees so no leaves fall.

Bill and Jimbo are dead on! These so-called Millenials need to live through the pleasure of a Draft Physical to see what they are missing! And then get to open the letter that says “GREETINGS”! That may be why our older generation looks at things differently!

Young people nowadays don't have anything to be afraid of other than terrorist, and the majority leaves it to the 1% anyway who actually do the fighting. When I was growing up in the 50's we were aware that our parents, grand parents and family members participated and many died in WW1, WW2, Korea, and living under the fear of Vietnam which for myself and many was reality. In 1960 everyone was told the world was coming to an end and it didn't, (duh!) and then we lived with the Cuban Missile crisis which was reality on steroids, and the cold war gave us plenty to chew or fingernails over. Today the youth are being threatened by those who are wanting to cash in on a new and at times manufactured crisis around every turn. Our youth live with all kinds of threats being fed them almost daily by the liberals who see the need to keep things stirred up in order to advance their twisted agenda. If people, especially our youth would just study and learn history, they would find out they don't have it that bad! I'm all for saving the planet and protecting the environment, but we need to step back, take a deep breath, and leave the petty PC stuff alone, and let some common sense and thought into their decision making, without letting someone else make their decisions for them. I believe that you guys are right, about SOME of the youth today.... But you also need to get out more. There are plenty of people in the "millennial" group that have common sense and will be good leaders some day. Let's face it, there were plenty of turds in y'alls time as well. Let's think about things that happened in America during the Vietnam era for example.... Anti-War protests, Soldiers being "welcomed" home amid protests and spit on, Hippies, etc. Not bashing, just pointing out every generation has it's clueless group of people.

I agree. I have some of both in my family. Some of my grand kids are just as savvy as I am, maybe a little more. But a couple of them don't have since to pour pee from a boot with the instructions written on the heel. The problem in America today, those clueless ones is who gets all the attention. Those working and learning don't get much press, ask Mike Rowe.

Next 20 years are going to be interesting for sure. And I agree that there are a lot of sensible youngsters in the world. My point was in my younger days we didn’t have many chances to buck the system other than going to Canada- hah like Rosie!

The original article begs a question, “If lakes and river contribute as much as 25% of the release of carbon-sourced gasses into the atmosphere, how much of this release do the oceans contribute?”
