Stopped in at the Fort Worth office to replace my boatowners card (the old one got so smudged you couldn't read it - they've changed to a better printer now). Nearly an hour waiting in line (don't go between 12 and 1:30), you wouldn't believe the number of times I heard words like, "sorry, nothing I can do about it - you have to get the last owner of record to transfer title to the guy who sold it to you first." Like a broken record, all these poor folks who bought boats with no titles.....................

Boatowners Card???????

I've had different boats off and on for over 30 years and never had one! Either that or I call it something different. Maybe registration card? What are you talking about?

I'm assuming you mean the blue title card? I had some fun trying to get mine, and I'd actually bought my (used) boat through a dealership ... bureacracy hard at work

The best TPWD office I've EVER done business with is the one in Waco, Texas, the gals there actually act like they give 2 hoots in hell if they help you or not!

right, the registration card - the one you have to carry on the boat. But it's not blue any more.

Actually, I implied they weren't helpful...but that's not the case.

They took as much time as each person needed, made sure they got the right forms & knew how to fill 'em out. That's mostly why the wait was so long.

Just seems like a lotta people buying & selling boats without titles, then the guy wants to register it is up the creek...you know which creek......

Make sure you carry the card on the boat. I actually received a violation earlier this year because I had last years registration card in the boat instead of the new one they had just sent. My boat sticker was current as well, but that didn't seem to matter.
I have bought and sold several used boats and the title process with TPWD is a nightmare, it's a terrible process they use.

I bought a used boat and didn't have any problem with the title change. I guess it is the office you use. I went to Wichita Falls and that office really has there stuff together.

I used the Fort Worth office to transfer title on a used boat I had purchased, and had no problems. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

I was at the TPWD on 121 in Ft. Worth on Tuesday and transfered a used boat from out of state. While the line was long, the only problem that I had was that we forgot to put the motor and outdrive s/n's on the paperwork.

I had a similar problem. I bought a boat with a title only problem was that the guy I bought it from never transferred the title into his name even though his name was signed on the back of it. So when I went to try and do right they wouldn't register it to me unless I went back and somehow made him register it in his name 1st then transfer the title. I think that is a load of BS. How am I supposed to enforce this guy to do that? Seems to me that if someone else is willing to pay the tax and do the legal thing they should allow you to do so.

For everybody around the Weatherford area, they are now doing
body title at the anex courthouse on Santa Fe. They are some
really nice people there.
