Been catching these out of our stock tanks for years. They get quite big as you can see. have a mouth like a bass. We do have some perch in the same tanks that have the small mouths as well. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. Yes, They get really big. He is a small kid but just using the snoopy pole as reference you can see it is big. That is one of the bigger ones we have caught.

Mineral Wells, yeah I can make out there sometime. Oh I wasn't invited, lol.
Yup that is some catch. I am sure its not his first fish but I'd send that pic in to the TPWD and get that young man a "First Fish" award or something. That's worth keeping a memory of.
Thanks for sharing that. The smile on his face was well worth the share.
Could it be a Rock bass, Goggle eye, Warmouth or whatever everyone calls it in your town? I caught quite a few of those in my childhood up in OK and they could get quite large. Mouth was much larger than a Bluegill
Great Fish !!!! My guess is it's a hybrid green sunfish. I catch a lot of both pure green sunfish and hybrid green sunfish in ponds. The hybrid green sunfish are consistently much bigger than a pure green sunfish. The coloring is usually much darker on the mature pure breed green sunfish in ponds as well.
Side Note: Leaning to a Hybrid Green for the same reason that J-Moe stated. Also the ear on the fish is longer than normal and there is no orange color on the back dorsal fin.

Sinner's Prayer. God forgive me a sinner. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior !
Side Note: It seems that just about every specie of the six sunfish are inner breeding. I would say the above fish is more Green and than Hybrid. It should also be noted that I am wrong on my fish I.D.'s 90 percent of the time.
Great pic, I know that smile well, good job dad! That is a beast of a sunnie! My 2 cents, I'm leaning with the majority and thinking that's a multi-generation hybrid greenie, especially if you have been getting those for many years. Wouldn't and couldn't put a percentage on it but it looks more green than anything else especially with that huge mouth, with some redear in there due to the longer body shape and overall size.
