When P&W stops being in the spraying business, starts dumping forage fish instead of fingerling bass, and starts fertilizing public water like private managers do. Some reprieve from the greater DFW and Eastern Texas Jersey boys would help too. TP&WD gone corporate.
Grateful for every sunrise and sunset I get to witness. - Jason

Boise D Arc will be too close to the metromess and the winters will be too cold to grow a 18lb+ It’s just south of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma state record is under 15lbs
I think it’ll come from private waters near the Athens area Or, if conditions are just right (years and years of good rain) the San Angelo area
Private doesnt count, the high fences world of fishing, meaningless. Meaningless you say?? Hasn't been done yet!! Apparently there are a few of you that seem to think you can dig a hole, stock it full of bait & bass and in a few years you have a lake full of 18 pound bass. It don't work that way fellas. If it did we would be hearing about 18 pound bass every year. When was it we last heard of a LEGIT 18 pound bass landed in Texas? Well, let's see.. That would be about 26 years ago. Yes outside of any education and knowledge gained its meaningless. If some kid cant bank fish for it under a bridge it's just a fabricated deal. It's only interesting because any of the millions who fish have a chance. Make it a 1500 dollar a day private deal and it's just another high fence sterioded up deer. I hope the next record comes from some little lake and its caught by a kid with a zebco snoopy reel and a earthworm. I share your sentiments about hoping a kid with a Snoopy pole catches the new State Record. However for anyone to call a new state record meaningless is short-sighted & narrow minded regardless of how much money it takes. Seems like there's always a small crowd that says any giant from a "high-dollar high-fenced hand-fed pond" is irrelevant, like it is easy peasy to achieve. You act like it is an easy chore. Let me remind you; Hasn't happened yet!!

La Perla Ranch with their Jalisco lakes and I can't remember the other lake. Gary has shared a lot with the forum and last year when they had to then populations the extra bass went to lake falcon. It seems the lake may be on track, but it takes probably 10 years to grow a bass this size. I think his bass are on a fast track, but we are only 5 years in.

It just gets too hot down there which jacks up their metabolic rate. That does two things, 1, it makes it hard to gain weight, and 2 shortens their life spans. They live fast and die young. Don't get me wrong, I bet Gary get's some giants out of Jalisco, probably some fish that push 16 lbs but I just don't see 18 lbs. I think all hope is basically lost at La Perla. Gary introduced northern strain genetics to make his fish more catchable. What he didn't realize at the time was that those genes are dominate. The fish in La Perla will actually get smaller over time unless he drains the lake and starts from scratch. In a perfect world you'd have a lake that stayed between 60-75 degrees year round that was stocked with all female bass of the best genetics and full to the brim with prawn, shad, and trout. Add about 10-12 years onto that recipe plus the willpower to avoid fishing it with any regularity and you'd have a good chance.

Yes, so an ideal situation would be a climate like San Diego, but with more rain and fewer people Lakes with decent depth, but also good vegetation for the forage to thrive and for the bass to feed in Also helps to introduce Florida strain bass into an environment where they have no natural competitors (see Japan) Malaga,Spain area

I'm pretty sure High School fishing has killed all the chances of a new state record

Houston County.. There's some big [censored] bass in there, and it's not over fished like most other lakes. One of my favorites!
