I am considering finally upgrading from my old 5" garmin unit and have been kicking around the idea of 2 - 9" units versus a single 12" unit. Haven't really decided on what brand yet so I'm not so much worried about which brand is better. I was just wanting to get some input from any of you guys that have used both setups or have gone from one to the other. I have plenty of space for either configuration. Thanks in advance.

Mike

I personally would go with two 9" especially if you are going to have Livescope eventually. This is under the assumption you are talking about the front deck. I have one of my units on Livescope 98% of the time and the other one either on maps or sidevu.

I'd go with two 9s with the philosophy of not putting all your eggs in one basket.

I have two 9's on my dash and am seriously considering replacing one with a 12 for mapping while running. Old eyes wont have to strain as much.

I've been looking at the elite ti-2 and now the garmin UHD units. I primarily fish for white bass, hybrids, and crappie now, but also do some saltwater when the time allows. What got me thinking about the 2 - 9" is that for side imaging i could run one on full left and one on full right with nav, 2d or whatever split on the top. What I can't seem to find out is that lowrance says they will network wirelessly, but doesn't specifically say if the side imaging is part of that. I'd like to stay with one transducer if at all possible.

The best part of two is if one goes out or on the blink you still have one working. I've run two for many years one bird 1199 and one old Lowrance X-15MT its still one of the better black&whites around.

I have used the smaller ones and now use larger ones. I would never go back to 2 smaller over 1 larger one again. Brands may be different but in the HB line anyway, the pixel difference between a 9 and a 10 are noticeable. You would get better quality pictures on a 10" and up and the screen is noticeably larger on a 10" than a 9". I'm assuming you'd be using atleast side imaging on the unit. In that case think of how small a fish is in the SI view. You get a much better view with a 12 than a 9 and the fish or structure will be larger and more defined. I have a 12 on my console and love it. I have a 10 on my front deck and it works pretty well while standing but to be honest, I rarely even turn it on unless I have the 360 running.

Go somewhere like bass pro where they have several on display. step back to where you'd be from the unit in your boat and see the difference then think about being out in direct sunlight and other conditions and how that will effect the view.
