How do yall feel about eating those fish though lol only reason I wont fish the trinity I like to eat my catch, especially with the gar I feel bad cause of how you gotta make them swallow it to get hooked I grew up fishing the stretch from SW Blvd to Hulen. It isn't much further around to Trinity Park. Back then, 40ish years ago, we were hearing the same thing. Bob Hood was the Outdoors writer for the Startlegram, so I wrote in and asked the question for his column. As a kid, it was pretty cool to see him respond in print. He had asked "those in the know" and said it was safe to eat fish between downtown and BB Lake. I realize a lot changes in 40 years, but if I was eating what I caught, I'd probably still eat fish out of there. With the third eye that popped up on my forehead, I should be able to tell if something didn't look right with the meat before I cooked it!

Get a couple more and w/ some hushpuppies make a blockparty fish fry (social distancing of course) but within arms reach of the vittles. Have a grand Memorial Day and thank a vet if you get a chance. Oh yeah, congrats on the cats !!

Great job! Grew up in ft worth and learned how to fish on the trinity back in the 60s. The hole behind the lake worth spillway we called it the gar hole. When ever the lake would spill over there would be long deep puddles of water full of fish, it was like every cast you would catch a fish. The fish hatchery used to be beside the hole and behind the hospital.... great times, thanks for sharing

Where are some good places to throw a line in? I target the spill ways and river bends. Lots of bank access along the Trinity River!!

If I'm going after gar, carp, and catfish, is there any particular type of area I should be on the lookout for? Also, does time of the day play a big role on when gar are biting in the Trinity? I'm assuming during the heat of the day, fish will congregate in cooler areas (shade, deep water, etc.), but does that mean they won't be as actively looking for food?

I've been to the spillway on Beach Street and I-30 twice this week from 6am-10am or so. Didn't have much luck there despite seeing tons of gar and bass. Is there anything I might've been doing wrong? I wasn't getting bites at all, except a couple bluegill. Used lures, cut bait, and live bait.
