Red Snappa you have to get it directly from Minn Kota, but you can turn your GEN 1 to a GEN 2 with an upgrade kit they have. We just did it a few months ago. Worth the upgrade. You get a new Control Head, a new remote, and a hockey puck. You can install it yourself. Did I say worth the money. It's worth the money! We have had it a couple years and we love our Ulterra. Our big gripe was the spot lock was worthless on Gen 1. Now that we changed to a Gen 2 Control Head and we have a Spot Lock that works we could not be happier. Call if you have any questions. Well I've had mine since 2017 and love it but in this video it failed me, but not the actual product's fault... there was a metal washer that was floating around in the motor housing that a Minn Kota technician had dropped inside and this moment when I was making the boat come towards me with the wind blowing away from me the washer finally locked up the motor .... Talk about a perfect recipe for disaster and perfect timing LOL ...Got it fixed and has been awesome ever since https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO5XvWkm9gU

I have the quick removable bracket and have not had to use it but you should definitely have it. Lots of reasons possible where the motor will not stow and it would save you. It's easy to install and very secure.
Any thing mechanical could have a problem and always at a bad time it seems.

HOGON...How do you know a GEN1 from a GEN2? Never seen anything about this. How much does it cost?

I've only had my Ulterra out 3 times and have launched the boat without any ropes nor climbing in the boat while on the ramp..... Awesome motor, super quite and the spot lock is several times better than the 1st gen.....

HOGON...How do you know a GEN1 from a GEN2? Never seen anything about this. How much does it cost? Gen 2 has the Bluetooth heading sensor and different remote The link is about $800 and the regular I pilot runs about $400. You would have to call Minn Kota directly and they usually would want the serial # of your current trolling motor so they can verify . This upgrade is only good for the legacy ulterra trolling motors

If your unit is not Bluetooth capable then it is most likely Gen 1.
Is the Spot Lock worthless and drifts an entire boat length before it kicks into Rabbit Mode and almost throws you out of the boat? Then you probably have Gen 1.
I don't have the kit number handy but call MinnKota directly and tell them you want to Upgrade your Gen 1 to Gen 2 the kit comes with a new control head, a new remote, and a hockey puck.
I'm not a 100% sure, but if memory serves me correctly I believe the kit with tax shipped to my house was $515 give or take. You actually get a Spot Lock that works. It works better with wind...you want some wind.
If MinnKota doesn't know what your talking about get a Supervisor. If need be I'll hunt down my order receipt.
If you have a Gen 1 I can highly recommend the upgrade...it's a game changer with Spot Lock.
Keep me posted.

Rick, if you get by with the 45" shaft, I'd go that route. When fishing shallow with a 60" shaft on your boat, there's a lot of shaft below the surface and you'll be hitting a lot more limbs/stumps. True, the motor mechanism takes up about 8" of the shaft, but your boat is low in the front end. And with the longer shaft, you've got a lot more shaft sticking back at the front of the boat when stowed. Meaning you'll have to make sure you mount at an angle that puts the head inside the boat when stowed. That may also mean the holes for the current TM won't match. Another issue to consider is the motor has to be clear of any obstruction, like front seat, when you hit stow.

The seats won’t be an issue, but may end up having to move my bee readys from that side a tad. It’s a close fit with the terrova now Thanks

Thanks HOGON and 44 Diesel for the information. My Ultera has Bluetooth so it must be a Gen2.

The newer Terrova has the improved spot lock and an assist for deploy and stow that makes that operation much easier and less stressful. Max got a new Terrova for his boat and I couldn't believe how much easier the motor stowed with the assist.

We measured from the deck of my boat to the water with one guy in the front of the boat and it was 20". If that measurement on your boat is less than about 18", a 45" Ulterra will probably work even in rough water, unless it gets REALLY rough, in which case, you are probably getting off the lake anyway., but just in moderate chop where you would normally keep fishing, mine will come out of the water barely as the boat bobs up and down.
The Ulterra has a trim on it that would allow you to run it with it not all the way down if you needed to run it in shallow water. Stowing a 60" shaft could pose a problem, especially on a shorter boat. I have a 20' boat and a 60" probably would have fit fine.

We have the 60" shaft. Our boat is 18.5'.
We also use the Lift Saver Trolling Motor Mount.

I have the lift save on mine as well. Good mount and Ron is a great guy to deal with.

They are a great and convenient tool. The only draw back I have encountered is they are a sensitive tool. They cant too much beat of a beating. It doesn't take much to knock em off center. Make sure to keep the belt tight and all moving components well lubed and you will not have any problems.
Since I run a guide service I always have a spare one on standby in case I do run into problems. I have an extra extra spare if you want one slightly discounted that I am selling.
