the optis blow too the main reason the hpdi s blow up is because most are not serviced correctly when an hpdi starts to run bad it already has a cylinder going down.

I serviced the $$$@@@@ outta mine and it blew. Not sure what more could have been done to prevent its demise. Followed every service recommendation yamaha and otherwise. Not so sure about the SHO motors either. Seems they like to blow up also.

I blew one this year for the first time in my 30 years of boating. Most motors will eventually blow, doesn't matter the brand. Rebuilds are almost a thing of the past, too. Marine dealers only want to replace with a new powerhead. That's what my guy did, and it cost a whopping $7,500. She's an animal now with a full 2yr warranty. I truly think it's faster than it was before she blew. I would suggest my guy, but he doesn't work on Yammies.

For the record: I love Mercs & Yams. You may be too young to remember when everyone was calling the then new Merc Optimax motors, OPTI-POPs due to all the failures they had in the late' 90-s and early 2000's. I bet Merc recalled and rebuilt 20,000 V6 motors.

Mallard Marine can rebuild your broke Yam. He's a great guy. Hydro-Tec Marine is also very good. He built two hotrod Yams for me in the early 90's.

There are two types of outboard motors. The ones that just blew up and the ones that are fixing to.
