I would like to install a doggy door so my pups can make their way outside when they want. It would give me a bit more freedom to be away longer periods.

My question is how do you keep rocky raccoon from using the door?

They make ones that open electronically with certain collars

We have owned two of these doors, finding them superior to any other we have researched. They are bullet proof in their mechanism, plus the company has great customer service. The doors lock not allowing access unless the motor is tripped by a magnetic tag on the pet. We had the same concerns, not wanting uninvited animals into the house. Here is their website link, let me know if you have any questions :

In five years I've never had a critter try to come in the doggy door.

Raccoons have never come into my house and I have one for my cat that is near where I feed the raccoons. I've watched them every night for years and they avoid that door like the plague. I'm sure they can smell my cat's food too, less than 10 feet inside the house from doggy door.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I had the same experience until the possum incident of 2010. We no longer have a dog door.
