I know everyone has their own preference. But which one do you do more often? I am new at both for a Kayak.

I started with anchoring 100% of the time. I am slowly learning how to drift fish and getting better hook ups.

I fish for crappie 99% of the time so I’m fishing over a particular spot. If I’m not anchored then I’m using my pedals to keep me in place.

Depends on what your fishing for and if you're casting, jigging or soaking baits. I have a 8 lb boat anchor for when I'm fishing for whiskers. I have a 24" drift sock when I'm fishing the flats at the coast or any shallow water where I need to cover a lot of water to locate fish. I would also take the drift sock with me if I was fishing a creek. I also have a stake out stick when I'm in 4-5' of water or less. It's a lot easier than dealing with an anchor and I can stick it in the ground when I catch a fish to keep me from blowing up any more fish.
You get out of it what you put into it!

I now fish for Crappie 40% of the time and catfish 40% of the time and Bass 20% of the time. I tie down for crappie ( unless in a creek) Both Anchor and drift for Cats and just drift while bass fishing. This kayak thing a addictive.

Both. I like to start drifting. If i am trying to hold over a specific spot then obviously anchor. If im just chilling fishing then its always anchored. Sometimes i dont care if i catch anything so im not putting forth any real effort.

Something about drifting for big blues is very enjoyable.

I drift 90% of the time when bass fishing and clip to brush 90% of the time when crappie fishing.
I bought a stakeout pole for shallow bass fishing... but I found that I don't like using it. I determined that its easier to run up on a log or patch of grass when im shallow enough to use the pole.

OK. Back to this drifting thing. I have not drifted from my Kayak (Yet). But I will be doing it very very soon. My question is. Which is preferred: Drifting with the sock off to the side? or Drifting with the sock off the front? of Drift with the sock off the back?
As I am thinking about what I might prefer. I was thinking the sock off the front. So teach me Masters

Either would work, but I always had my drift sock off the side. The whole point is to slow your drift so whatever works best for you. I had handles on the side of my yak so I would just clip the sock there. Just be sure it is clipped, not tied just in case you need to release quickly.

I generally drift some but right now ive been catching em in shallow water in trees. Drifting in that is a mess.
