Me too! I mean I can’t imagine it being that much off. And what thorough evaluation did the agent really do? Did he just lower the amount to appease the customer? I’m assuming there is no mortgage.

Says who? Again you may be right but I’ve asked specific questions regarding insured value and sq/ft but your dodging question. In the end your value and claim don’t impact me I’m just trying to ascertain if it was truly misvalued and insurance company screwed you or if it’s a question of understanding of insurance and how it works.

The agent, my wife, and I walked around the house eliminating things like gazeebos, outdoor kitchens, colonial shutters, crystal chandeliers, and theaters

My family and I like to live without extravagance

The property value was based on lavish additions.

Let’s try this a different way. What was your insured cost per sq/ft before adjustment?

I’d have to do some digging to find those numbers

Ok fair answer. Again you may be right and in that case it’s usually an agents error or fault. Having been in industry for 18 years I’m just curious about it lol.

Thanks.
I’ve been frustrated with poor advice and especially that my wife’s kindness was met with “sorry, there is nothing we can do”

I have always been under the impression if you call an adjuster out the claim is started no matter what.

With more info I’m happy to give advice. In the end I’m all for giving an insured benefit of the doubt as it’s not my money as an adjuster lol. But I also very much understand all phases of insurance so I can certainly give a straight shot answer in most cases regarding situations and possible results.

Yes, this is now my understanding. Lesson learned.
I asked my agent for the files from 3 years ago
She looked for them and could not find any documents
She said the handoff from the now retired agent to her did not include an organized or thorough transfer of files

Who is your insurance with? The insurance company itself should have all that on file including the original adjusters report from the claim you made 3 years ago. I’ve honestly never heard of an agent and an adjuster coming out to assess a hail claim. Sometimes the agent makes a claim for their customer, but at that point it’s in the hands of the claims department. Agents don’t normally get too involved in claims process unless there are some extenuating circumstances.

I have no idea what is normal
Thought it was like in the commercials; you call your agent and they show up smiling in a windbreaker at your door

Home or Auto
Why else do I pay him?

I had plenty of trouble with Allstate, wrong info on coverage, no call back with quote for motor home coverage and lack of knowledge to answer my questions. Switched to Liberty Mutual and questions were answered correctly and got better coverage for less money. 3 months after switching got some hail and wind damage and they took a look and cut a check on the spot. My dad is now going through the BS with Allstate on his house. Even though the hail strikes are worse than mine were they denied the claim because the window screens and gutters did not show enough damage but we showed them that the windows and gutters were new and installed after the date of the storm....didn't matter. So we filed for a second inspection and now while waiting for the appeal process it is raining and there are leaks. Called again and they are coming ASAP but still a week out due to the tornado claims. They will now get to pay for a lot more damage than just a roof!
