Powerful tornadoes swept across Dallas on Sunday night, destroying property but sparing lives. Mayor Eric Johnson declared the city “very fortunate,” and meteorologist Patrick Marsh told the Associated Press that early alerts led to residents taking shelter as no fatalities were reported in the storm’s aftermath. One local station declined to prioritize delivering that alert to its viewers. The Dallas Cowboys were playing the Philadelphia Eagles on NBC 5, which delayed breaking into programming to deliver a tornado warning during the game. Story

From the article;
"The lesson learned here is that viewers will be mad either way, whether a station does or doesn’t break into weather programming during a sporting event. So it’s probably best to err on the side of delivering potentially life-saving information."

Real time split screen technology broadcasting. It's a thing NBC5. Check into it.

Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Plenty of other stations, apps, and websites to get weather coverage on. They went to coverage at every opportunity. If you were watching the game then you knew that there was a tornado going on.

I depend on several phone apps and the TFF to inform me of any potential weather situations. The TFF alerted me to the developing system as it crossed the Red River, approximately one hour prior to any of my apps.
Thank you TFF. Stay hard.

Little known factoid. Hop the TFF weather prognosticator also has surgical hook removal skills. He can rip a hook out then tell you the weather.

Something else for people to bitch about. Watch the game on TV, keep up with the weather on your computer, tablet, iPad, or phone. It ain't rocket science.

I think NBC did an appropriate amount of warning the viewers of the storm during the game. Preempting every commercial break and text across the screen during the game seems like it got the message out that something was coming and if you’re in the area you could check your phone or one of the other networks. But they said there was a tornado on the ground multiple times.

It was '78 or '79... in the middle of Mork and Mindy Channel 8 cut to a live weather warning because there was severe weather in part of Dallas. The phone lines went crazy with complaints.
But you have to remember that TV stations got hounded with complaints for interrupting reruns of I Love Lucy for the first moon landing.
