Just in time for the release of the new Midway film, the research vessel Petrel has found the Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft carrier Akagi.
The Flagship of the Pearl Harbor and Midway operations. She was sunk by American Dive Bombers during the Midway battle.
She was found near the IJN carrier Kaga, which was located last week.

I cant wait to see the movie. Its interesting that vessel was found. WWII history is great stuff.

the original is one of my favorite movies. saw it in sensorround. think I'll pass on the remake.

I agree
Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston were excellent in it and I liked how they portrayed the pilots and crew of the fighter and bombing groups

I think the older movies represent what we were taught in school. I don't like or believe in the new teaching 70 years after it happened. I will take the word of the ones who made the movies just a few years after the war. I am not sure the ones making them today have a good understanding of who we were and what really happened. I don't want to hear how our great men and women were racist and evil because of what happened back them. We were fighting to keep a great evil in Germany, Japan, and Italy from taking over the world.
I may watch it just to see what they do with history.
and yes the stars of the movie back then did a great job.

From what I have seen of this film, it depicts the Japanese for who they were.....The best Carrier force in the world at that time, just overconfident enough to walk into a trap.

Looking forward to this film. Hoping it gives due credit for the victory to the genius of the USN codebreakers and the heroism of the Navy pilots, especially the torpedo bomber pilots that sacrificed their lives and drew the Japanese fighters down and away from where the dive bombers were going to be.

In the '70s, George Gay (the Navy pilot who had a front row seat to much of the battle after was shot down and had to ditch) lived up near Paris, TX
I've seen and read a few interviews with him.
