I’m home sick today. I’ve lost my voice and even at a whisper can’t speak a whole sentence without needing to cough. I speak to people all day long so it’s a tough position to be in. Yesterday was rough but this morning my voice is practically gone. We had 2 others out the past 2 days back to back. I’m hoping I only need to miss one day.

But no, as an adult I’ve never been comfortable doing something for fun when I call in sick. If I’m taking a day to go fish or whatever, I tell them that. I’ve never feigned illness for personal time.

You took the words out of my mouth. I was about to post the same thing. With that being said I still went omfootball when I missed. I just missed my classes.

I like that cuz that’s basically all it is . No phones blowing up , no emails , no all day drives , no 18 hr days , no mildly handicapped helpers, no crazy customers , no 2 am emergency calls . Just me and the dog watching tv having a drink ahhhh it’s nice .

Not since I was a kid. Now if I need to go fishing and it doesn't interfere with work I will just go. But that doesn't happen often anymore.

I believe this is an educational field terminology... My teacher wife passed it on to me.

There were a few occasions years ago where I hurt my nose and had to call in the following day.

I did when I was young.
These days I get 6 weeks vacation a year and that's plenty of time to have a me day.
I can sympathize with someone who puts in a lot of hours doing physical work and not having vacation or comp time to use.

To me, playing hookey is no show, no call. Deal with the fallout later. Never done that. I get 7 weeks PTO a year. Sometimes call in sick and use a day. Boss griped at us a couple years ago about as a team how much PTO we lost from not using it. Think he regrets that now.

It took me almost 24 years to top out my sick time at 2k hours,I have used 3 days this month to get back below the Max,enjoyed every minute of it,and no I don’t feel the least bit guilty.
BTW we earn 8 hrs a month if we don’t call in sick,that’s 96 Hrs a year for those that are mathematically challenged,safe to say I have never done this before.

If they don’t want you to use sick days don’t give them to you. I definitely used to use mine and like skeetr just said I didn’t feel guilty one bit.

We don’t track sick days at my work. I have over indulged before and called in sick. To me that’s not hooky. I was actually sick. Hooky is when you’re perfectly fine but you call in anyways. I don’t ever remember doing that.

I only play hookey if there is nooky involved so no, I haven't done that in years!
