As long as your health supports lake lot living, why not? In my opinion, the money created via your abilities is to be spent .The investments created can be shared when you check out !

I am retired health reasons, but the aches and pains sometime are almost to much. Be careful what you wish for, I looked foreword all my life to retirement but some days are tough. So enjoy your health.

Sorry to hear that, Tim. None of us know what is around the next bend.

You got that right, instead of sitting on the lake fishing this weekend, I am stuck on a job that probably won't end until after next weekend ... get up at 4:00 AM ... get home at 7:00 PM
I am too old for this, and on top of all that, my wife stays up making noise until after midnight every night!

I've been retired going on 4 years (after 43 yrs of work). I'm one of the lucky ones. I live on Lake Lewisville and get to fish it and Grapevine during the week with very few boats around, especially before/after summer. I also have a place on Lake Fork which we share our time on equally. It's great to be able to fish any time you want, instead of only when you can. BUT, I also find that I get a bit bored when not fishing. Moral of my story is make sure that you can keep yourself busy after retirement.

Same. 2-3 years more of Federal Service and I'm D O N E with this rotating shiftwork, 6-7 days a week. Only in my 50s, but feel much older sometimes with stress and lack of sleep. To be able to go out to, or on a lake with hardly anybody else around to snag a few slabs will be glorious.

And what Guy said in his last statement is very true (about keeping busy). I know several former coworkers who said the same and knowing me, I bore VERY easily. I may even find a part-time job I like for another 3-5 years just to supplement my pension from the NWS and with one of my kids likely still going through college. I don't think I'll have a problem with that. I tend to work harder at home it seems (with honey-dos and my own list) than when I'm at work!

Same and can empathize. It can be depressing knowing your body is breaking down. I've had my share of surgeries and I'm only turning 53 next month! My wife says I'm a cat and have 9 lives. I told her I want to retire soon because the stress and sleep deprivation from over a quarter century of weekly rotating shifts is become harder each year (or month it seems).

I want to enjoy retirement, fish, travel, spend time with my wonderful wife of 25 years, and be a grandfather hopefully one day. What I don't want is to be in doctors offices or the hospital all the time for my reward, or worse yet, a nursing facility. Life's too short.

After I retired I took a part time job at Bass Pro shop. To say I had fun on that job would be an under statement.. With the discount I got I up dated a lot of my tackle and made some new frends .
Have fun and laugh at ever chance you get.
