Ok, so my wife’s diesel Jeep has a known problem that’s in a TSB. I have a power train warranty on it, so the fix which is a new style of cylinder heads should be covered. What I’m worried about is them not wanting to replace the cylinder heads because it’s going to tie up a diesel mechanic for a long time and try to tell me it’s something else. What can I do to stop this before it starts? Have another dealer diagnose it, then take it to my local dealer to fix it? I’m hoping the dealer will just say, oh ya it’s the cylinder heads because it’s doing exactly what the TSB says and fixes it, but I have a feeling it’s not going to happen that way.

Can't you just print out the tsb and take it to them and tell them you want it done.

Why worry until you go to the dealership and see what they say?

Hey Jacob, doesn't Nac High School have an auto shop class? Surely they could take care of it?

Trade it in for another, save yourself a lot of heartache
call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

I’m a service advisor at a Honda store. But for the life of me I can’t figure out the motive behind what you’re worried about. The dealer wants to do the work to 1) make you happy 2) keep their techs busy and 3) warranty work is guaranteed money. They don’t have to worry whether you can afford it or not.
If a TSB says to replace cylinder heads I want to replace cylinder heads. I have no motive to do otherwise. I’ve never heard of anyone not wanting do do work because it ties up a tech. A tech being busy is how they feed their families.

Warranty work at a dealership is basically paid for by the corporation, not the dealership.
Like KD said, they usually are eager to do warranty work.
Last Ford I had, had some sort of bumper-to-bumper warranty. Every time I took the truck in for warranty work, they went through it with a fine tooth comb and found every loose nut and bolt and charged it back to Ford Corp.
I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us. Hopper

If a TSB says to replace cylinder heads I want to replace cylinder heads. I have no motive to do otherwise. I’ve never heard of anyone not wanting do do work because it ties up a tech. A tech being busy is how they feed their families. Most places around here have 1 diesel mechanic. It’s a huge job with lots of labor. 34 hours by the book. I’ve heard horror stories on the Jeep forums about dealers not wanting to do it and putting people off for months and months. According to the TSB, I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to do it even if they can’t replicate it, but I don’t know. They already told me I wasn’t getting a loaner car even though the policy I was sold by them said that I would get one provided for free. The dealership we bought it from is putting it off on the Jeep dealer, and sent me there. They told me to get one from the dealer I got the policy from.

UPDATE
And y’all thought I was crazy.... Took it to the dealer I bought it from and after they sent me to the dodge dealer and back and forth a couple times, it’s now at the local Dodge dealership. The Dodge dealer, who I gave the printed out TSB to along with the extended warranty showing what was covered under the FCA Emissions settlement, called my dealer to relay the message that there was indeed lots of soot and carbon buildup in the engine. Instead of following what the TSB says, they said they would “flush the system” to clean the carbon out. I told my dealer that was unacceptable, and only putting a bandaid on the problem which was why they made a TSB about how to fix that specific problem. My dealer said, the dealer said that’s what Chrysler said to do. So, I called Jeep Care and opened a report on the issue. I told them I was not satisfied with the dealer’s solution, when they admitted I had the problem stated in the TSB, yet we’re going to do something else to fix it. The guy at Jeep Care was very nice. Put me on hold and called the Dodge dealership. When he got back on the line, he said “They said they’d go ahead and fix it like the TSB says, it’ll just take longer.” So, they KNEW that they should’ve done that in the first place, just wanted to take the easy way out.
*The dealer I bought the car from did get me a free loaner car.
