I was wondering how far do you travel to fish in you kayak? With paddle or peddle. Let's say the wind is 5-10 mph.

The most distance I've covered is something like 15 miles, that is a pretty narrow 14' kayak.
I've also had many trips where I don't even cover a mile in several hours of fishing.

Typical trip, if there is such a thing, is where I'll cover close to a mile per hour. That's taking into account fishing and paddling from spot to spot, and away from and back to the launch.

The reason I asked. Is because I normally go places when I am at my spot in 200 to 300 yards. And don't want to wind to catch me while I am waaaaayyyyy out.

I'm in a pedal and I rarely go more than 5 miles round trip. However, like you and Karstopo, I often go less than a mile. I have never done more than 8 to 10 miles round trip... Yet!

If possible, I head into the wind relatively quickly and fish the "good spots" on my way upwind. Once I get to where I'm heading, I slow down and let the wind push me back.

I pedal (Topwater PDL). I can pedal all day at a steady 3.6 mph. I've done 10 miles in a day, but my normal is 5-7. Like Mike said, if possible I like to head up wind/up current from my put in spot and work my way back.

I paddle, been using a Werner Carbon last several years, but did my longest trips with Werner Fiberglass. Every trip is different and it just depends on how intent I'm on fishing and not paddling. My two longest trips were probably 10-12 years past. One was from the launch at Cedar Lake Creek in the San Bernard NWR to the ICW with side trips and some covering the same water more than once. I paddled from Wharton to almost Bay city on the Colorado river, current helps there in spots, but the prevailing wind hurts. Other long trips involved paddling from Drum Bay to the extreme back of the slop bowl with many detours in the mix.

Depends on where I'm fishing. If I'm fishing the flats I'll be paddling. I usually don't need to go more than a couple of miles. If I'm fishing for cats on the lake I'll be pedaling- usually need to go a couple of miles one way. If I'm offshore I'll be pedaling. Last time I went out I pedaled about 17 miles.

You can paddle and peddle as far as your body will allow. I can paddle all day as long as I can stop, get off the yak and stretch then move on. I am not sure of the disctance, but I launched from Shady Shores on Lake Dallas and paddled up the mouth of East Fork & 380. It was a great day of fishing. However, the paddle back was a bit extreme for my liking. Coming back I encountered a stiff 10+mph headwind. If anyone has paddled that area, it is shallow and it does have stumps. Many times I got caught high centered or came down lopsided on a stump when i would go over a wave. Luckily I never turtled, but I will admit to having a few skid marks in my drawers!

Best advice above is to know what direction the wind will be coming from so you can just drift with it back to your launch area.

What they said.

Plan on the wind to help you back. Windfinder app is free and a good friend!

I took this pic in 600+ feet of water, 7 miles off Hollywood Beach Florida, in 2004. Was looking for the edge of the gulf stream which was 10 miles out according to one of the boaters I spoke to on the water. I turned around as I couldn't see land and didn't have a gps at the time. The water turns almost black in the gulf stream and can be as close as a couple of miles offshore on some days.

My longest is about 6 miles of paddling.
Usually around 2-3 miles of paddling.
Always aware of what the wind is doing.
Try to have the wind at my back when going back to the ramp, but this does not always work out when going to the Dam.

I usually paddle further on a river or large creek and have gone 22 miles in one stretch, but typically 10-15 miles on flowing water and 5-8 miles on reservoirs.
