I have had more luck personally on river carp in the winter. Not lake carp. Tail races or moving water I can get them consistently, but not in a lake.

Do carp bite good in the winter also? Yes and no. Carp fishing slows down and Buffalo fishing picks up in the colder months but for both species that's when the big girls typically come out! Personally it's my favorite time to fish

I catch carp every month of the year and I have had a personal goal of catching at least one carp on a fly rod every month. I have accomplished this goal for the last 4 years. January and February can be very difficult for topwater carp. I catch lots of carp deep in January and February. Chumming works great in the winter months. Hot water lakes are another option for carp when things slow down.
