No one has said Popeye’s??? It was good when they were new, but the last few times I went, wasn’t as good as I remember. I don’t really eat fried chicken much these days, but My top 2 are:

My mom’s (fried dark and simply southern)
Pecan Lodge (I’ve only been to PL once- and yes, I ordered the fried chicken)

Funny fried chicken story-
A Sunday morning in Marine Corps boot camp 1985. I called my granny cause my parents didn’t answer phone.
Granny sat down we talked for a bit when suddenly she yelled, “OH SH_T!” And hung up.
It was week before I learned- while on the phone with me she forgot she was frying chicken for lunch with my parents for after church. She almost burned the kitchen down. Seriously, the cabinets and ceiling were black from the flames.

LET’S GO BRANDON!!!

Tinsley's Chicken & Rolls was GREAT. Boss Bird!!! They used to fly a DC-3 with their logo on the bottom of the wing, over the football games.

Too bad they went under. I hear that there is still one in Huntsville, but they say it's not the same.

They used to be all over central and East Texas. College Station, Nac. etc.

I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us.

I tried it once in 2014- Terrible. Gave it a go again in about 2016- Terrible. Seriously, the chicken was bone dry, the pot roast was like chewing boot leather and the sides all came straight from a can. Maybe it was better back years ago, I don't know.

This joint is good, I try to stop in there everytime I am withing 30 miles of the place.

I like Babe's, never had a bad meal at the Granbury location. Another thought to ponder is why places that are terrible BBQ joints have good fried chicken? I'm thinking Bill Millers and Underwoods, the BBQ is awful, but the fried chicken is good, maybe not best, but pretty good.

When I was a kid, we used to stop in Huntsville to eat at a fried chicken place on our way to visit our family in Lake Charles. Can't remember the name of the place, but it's probably the one you are talking about.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach
