I put in yesterday at the state park and fished within about 2-3 miles of the ramp mainly because I was wanting to run my boat for the first time in a while. Do any of yall run all the way out to the main lake or do you just fish the bayou?

Also, if I was going to run from the ramp to the main lake, what is the easiest way? Take the bayou channel all the way or hit the "government ditch" and cut through there?

Def cut thru gov ditch!! Once out of the ditch you'll get in the main channel and pass Johnson's and other places on your right and maybe 1.5 miles down you'll see a cutoff to your left (LL row) and once you go thru there you'll be on C row which runs the top of the lake.

Fishing should be good up at the state park on the main river as the current and spotted bass are fun. Lots of channel swings and docks to fish up that way. If you get to that small bridge with the big concrete seawall they were schooling there really well a month ago.

So you didn’t say how the fishing was FOR YOU! How was it? And yes Government Ditch will take you from Big Cypress Bayou right up to Uncertain into the “upper main lake”.

Thank you!! Bassmanrudy. That answered all my questions.

As for my fishing I caught 2 over 2lbs and several dinks on a rattle trap and a baby rapala rattl trap. They were all mud fat and spat up baby shad. I think they will really start tuning up with these cooler temps.

Well i went for a good long ride today. Went from State Park to the Big Lake Area. Luckily i was able to follow a nice couple that knew there way around. Only fished for about 45-1:00. Caught a 4lb bass and an 8lb opp.

Thank you guys for the guidance on taking the ditch the bayou would have been a long way around. I couldnt get over the lake though. I have fished a lot of water, but none that looked like that.

Glad you had fun! You should do the bayou way one day just for kicks. Lots of twists and turns and it can be a blast. 8lb opp prob felt like a Monster bass for a minute or 2 lol!!

Caddo is def one of the prettiest lakes out there.

Anyone ever use the channel that runs from Big Cypress Bayou where Cypress Village Rd. and Sesame St. (yes, I know) intersect as a shortcut to Johnson's Ranch? Was thinking about trying it when we go out this November.

I ran that lane (U row) from the bridge to P row(came over from Gov Ditch) back a few months ago and there is a lot of sand piled up in the corners and it gets really narrow in places. Maybe stay around 30 mph and be prepared to slow down but I don't think you could hit full speed for most of it. Prob just better to stay wide open and go thru Gov Ditch.

No way I’m taking a big boat down that anymore. Last time I went it was super sketchy with water down. I just run the ditch for most part. Now the fishing should be superior where ur talking bout

I have “run” this many times. By “RUN” I actually mean IDLE. While Government Ditch is by far the fastest/straightest route this shallow winding trail is very scenic and completely doable if lake is close to full especially if I’m out sightseeing with my wife. “Run”it? To narrow and twisty for my 21’ Ranger on plane. Some tight areas I would hate to come around and find I’m not alone.
