Mark, I wouldn't have thought you would get very far away from Fork after you retire.

I am happy with a nice small place in Texas because taxes are a little less painful that way but I can’t see having a second place unless it’s in a more forgiving area property tax-wise.

Second to the AOC’s and Beto’s of the world property taxes are near the top of my things I hate list.

Our summer Heat is becoming a close third , maybe I need a summer place in Wisconsin?

Just hit 60 so probably 4-5 more years till we retire & sell our small business. Plan to travel and do some volunteer work. Will likely stay in TX but move out of DFW. Don’t own rental property but have prepared with IRA ‘s and the like and have no debt at this time. Will have one relatively small pension & SS. Probably biggest concern is health care costs.

Here is my property tax bill I got in yesterdays mail. Went up a whopping $28 from last year on a 203K valuation.

Looks great, but what is your state income tax obligation.

I am 61 and can retire in May. I thought about working 3-4 years more but now I think I am about done. Will probably sell my house in a couple of years and rent. I have been looking at monthly rentals in places I love for the off season. Incredible deals out there. I love fly fishing around Durango and have found nice condos in the ski resorts that will rent me a unit for $30 a night if I stay a month! Can get a nice beach house on the coast for about the same price beginning in October.

65 for me. 8 years away. That will be 47 years at the same company. We already have traveled a bunch so plan to keep that up. Currently on vacation in Scotland for two weeks. Next year it’s Alaska for a week on a lodge you have to float plane into. We want to be sure we travel a bunch before we retire. We have been able to do that. You never know what your health is going to allow at retirement or for that matter if you will envelop make it.

Should be pretty set for retirement. Both of us have a 401K plus I have a pension. We should be comfortable.

Probably going to move to some place with seasons and smaller town yet close to a fairly major airport. May build a barn dominium. We will continue to travel around the world as long as our health holds out.

Retired at 54. Wife retired 2 years later when she was 52. We never had children so we got a head start. Sold the house and started traveling in an RV. We've been at it 6 plus years and have no end in sight. We follow the weather - south in the winter, north in the summer. While we get to see the USA we've gotten into a pattern of going the same places the same time of year because of the friends we made along the way.

Haven't been to Alabama yet but Savannah is on our bucket list...here we come fishin nut! Hope to do some crappie fishing while there.

I retire in two months at age 62. Hired a financial planner when I was 31 so we're pretty set. Have a lake house in Granbury so platoon there. Grandkids all in DFW area. Wife will continue to work until I'm 65 for health insurance and loves her job. We'll COBRA (Planned on expensive) for her last 18 months. Sell home here and finally relocate everything down there. Tow biggest worries are health insurance until Medicare kicks in and owning two homes.
