Retired at 55 with a pension , SS at 62 loving every minute off it . Will turn 64 this Nov pretty much enjoy every day . Live on the Lake since 2005 , 13 streps to the dock and boat slips . Brown bagging and living within our means really paid off while we were both working . Wife retired 4 years ago , has a pension also . It was not easy , have a plan .

Just retired in February of this year when I turned 65. Nothing magic about that number, we just have had zero debt, house, boat, cars, trucks, etc. all paid for. So it was time. My work had been fun for many years but management started to metricize every analytical task so it got to be a drag. My wife was let go a year ago from a little mom and pop truck parts company, I told her forget it, let's quit the rat race. I'm Type A, so I thought I would be bored to death. No sir. It is great. The day just fills up with stuff to do and we both love it. Wish I'd done it sooner. Grandkids baseball, soccer, football, fishing, playing music, camping, festivals. 20 years ago, I got smart and met with a Financial Advisor who told me to do this, then do that, then this, etc. Glad I had the sense to realize that finance was not my forte early on. Anyway, we'll see what else is in God's plan.

I still have a long way to go. I hope to be able to at least exit the corporate rat race by my mid 50's. Ideally I want to own a home in Florida for the winters. Fish all winter. Then own a home somewhere up North. Wisconsin probably, where I can fish all summer and hunt in the fall.

Like a previous poster I never really saved much of anything. So I'll always have to do something on the side to survive. We don't own a house and I doubt we ever will again. Probably wind up somewhere around her family so when I'm dead she'll have family to help her out.

I'd like to live close to my family and children, wherever that may be.
All my relatives live in England and my folks have lived on the other side of the world for the past 30 years.
Hope I get to experience living near family and sharing life experiences with my children/grandchildren/maybe great grandchildren.

I saw a lot of the world in the 70s (grew up in seven different countries) and feel very lucky to have seen it before there were McDonalds, Walmarts, and 7-11s everywhere.

Don't have much desire for overseas travel now, but would like a parks pass in a few different states and follow the bass prespawn every year from November to June. Starting after Thanksgiving in the Orlando area, then far south Texas, slowly making my way up north to Minnesota. Varying the lakes and states I visit each year.

House in SA.
Ranch in Hill Country out by Mason.
House at the coast, less crowded area like Port Mansfield.
I'd like to retire by 60, but may just keep working, who knows.

I'm retired. Yesterday I did nothing. Today, I am still going to do nothing. I wasn't finished.

I do think I will “need” a part time gig of some sort to be useful and have some regimen

Like I posted earlier for WAWI and I , I could actually work for my buddy’s son at the area NAPA stores down here. I would also like to get a captain’s license and a bay boat or a skiff to take inshore trips in Perdido and Pensacola bays , I would just take over flow or trail boat trips for a few guides I know down here , I definitely wouldn’t hustle up guide work that would just be a fun keep busy thing.

I've always thought Mineola would be a good place, close to fishing, golf, good hospital and the people seem to mind their own business. A 4-5 acre property with some pine trees and I'd be happy as a pit bull with a 3 legged postman.

Might ought to start planning for tomorrow in case you run out of things to do.

If you are sure that’s your destination then you need to know, the locals call it LA...

I plan to retire in UA, close to Lake Guntersville. The Boss wants to move back to Texas to be closer to the grand kids, but I ain't paying the annual Texas Wealth Tax. Alabama has low property taxes, no income tax on SS income and the first 24K (48K if married) of other income is tax free.
