Does anyone know if TPWD allows any input from fisherman about the lakes they stock? PK has changed allot since I retired and started fishing it in 2012/ We went from being about 20 feet down to a spring flood every year. Since our striped bass seem tp go down the river every year, I'd like to see some additional species put in the lake. Smallmouth bass and walleyes come to mind.
According to the stocking history, TPWD stocked smallmouth bass as recent as 2003 and I understand the smallmouth did well until there was a golden algae outbreak. A TPWD employee told me they quit stocking the smallmouth due to the golden algae but we have not had golden algae for a while. Besides, a smallmouth stocking could not be more of a waste than the stripers that went down the brazos or the trout that were stocked right before a huge release last winter.
Back in the 70's they put Walleye in the lake. Not sure why that did not take. They do very well in OK and AR.

I think so too and better yet they might stay in the lake.

You can send them all of the input you want but they won’t listen. Whether it is stocking fish or spraying grass they do what ever they want even if their own biologist say they shouldn’t.
Retirement best job ever.

9094: I was afraid that was the case. Other than being treated as a cash cow not sure what the state does for fisherman. $40 for a fishing license, $65 to register my boat, more for the trailer. If I use a state ramp its another $7. I think a medieval serf got a better deal fishing in the Kings lake.

You can call Wichita Falls and speak to the area biologist any time you want. They need to know what resources are being used.

I'd love to talk with them Randy. Do you have the phone number? I fish that lake a lot and could provide a little info.
Right now, I think the status of PK is the best since I got here in 2012. The lake is almost full and is chock full of bait. I was watching the Aoudad goats down by the dame with my wife and was marking massive schools of shad under my boat. Even Governor cove has big schools in it. I caught bait Tuesday evening and got over 70 shad in a single throw. Caught several LM bass that looked like footballs they were so fat.

It seems walleye would do well and even specific strains of walleye that tolerate slightly warmer water temperatures have been tried in Texas lakes at least since the 70s. To date none have ever created a self sustaining population, so perhaps this particular fish we should cut our losses on. Wish it were different I grew up taking walleye trips with my grandfather in New Mexico. Really enjoyed fishing for them, nice table fish also.
Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

The guy who used to run the Wichita Falls fisheries was Tom Lang. I went out with them on a couple of surveys they did back in 2015. I think Tom would listen.
