My sister has been going through our family history in completing her application for the DAR.
We have always understood that we were the product of a second marriage. Dad returned from the war in the Pacific to find an additional child. He divorced his then wife.
On Ancestry today, sis was contacted by a guy whose name is the same as my father...with Junior suffixed. Ancestry DNA links us to each other.
What creeps me out is that my newly found half brother has a brother with the very same name as me...and he is the bastard child born while dad was fighting the war. No, not me....
How strange is this???

Don't ever get into genealogy. You'll pull out every hair you've got left.

My grandfather used to joke that he paid good money to uncover his genealogy and then he paid a lot whole more to cover it back up.

up side...
you didn't discover a serial killer in the family.

My recent ancestry on my moms side anyway consisted of brothers and sisters marrying each other. Real talk.

So basically Dad used the same names again so he would have less to remember? Kinda like getting a side chick with the same name as the main chick so you don't get caught saying the wrong name.

I just know I'd let my sister handle the entire thing since she started it and wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

The new half brothers are in another country?
That is weird wild stuff. It was probably more common back then because it was easier to keep secret.

That's next level weird for sure.
My parents divorced when I was 4. Mom re-married to my dad (not my bio dad) when I was 5. My brother doesn't really remember any of it since he was just a baby. It came up recently with his wife who was also unaware since my parents are weird and never talk about it, and my mom thought that was a good time to tell me that I should not ever try to look for my bio dad because she got pregnant with IVF and I'm a test tube baby. I'm not even sure what to make of it in terms of whether she's just trying to hide me from ever meeting my bio dad (which I have no desire to ever do), or if I really was a test tube baby or what. I will say that me and my brother look literally nothing alike, so I have no idea what to make of it. I just live my life and don't worry about it. Never thought about it til mom had the bright idea to say something really odd a couple years ago...at least it gives my wife something to make fun of me about.
