Works great! My 5 yr old can cast his open face but when its windy he uses his Zebco 33 with 20lb braid and can throw it a mile. My wife used his zebco this weekend and caught her pb 6lber on it! I do have it on a good Diawa 6'6 rod which works really well.

Check to see if the pick up pin on the inside is plastic or metal, on the plastic pins the braid formed a groove and eventually ruined the reel. Additionally, braid cuts little hand pretty easily and because it is so strong it tends to break cheaper rods - both safety concerns that suggest using mono.

Agreed. I would be worried that my 4yr old would cut himself on braid. Heck, I've cut myself with the smaller size braid a few times.

I have had on my grandson's spincast & it worked fine. He moved on to a spinning reel & has now started using a bait caster. Still gets into tree top from time to time, but he is getting there. Keep taking your grandkid, it is worth every tangle & tree, when they catch their first bass. My grandson is now 10 & he is convince that he is going to be the next Van Damn.
