I’ve started the search for a center console boat. I’m wanting to buy a used one. I currently have a Skeeter 210SL with. 200 HP VMax that I love. Only reason I’m wanting to upgrade is for a boat that can fish more people at one time and for a boat that handles waves better than my SL210. I have seen some really nice Skeeter SX220’s for sale on boat trader etc that are in my price range.

Question, will the SX220’s handle rough water better than my current boat? We want to be able to fish on days with 15mph winds without water coming over the bow and getting beat up on the ride out to a fishing spot and back to the ramp? We also want to start fishing bigger lakes like Richland Chambers, Towakani, Livingston and want a boat big enough to handle waves on these bigger lakes. I won’t fish during windy weather but want to be able to fish below 20 mph winds. Bait tank is also another reason for the upgrade. Current boat doesn’t have enough room for a Shad tank.

My next concern is will the 200 HP motors on them be enough HP for 5-6 people on the boat considering it’s much heavier (looks heavier) than my current boat? Can this boat pull a skier if not too many people in it?

I am not only looking at Skeeter just have seen some really nice SX220’s in my price range. If you have any other brands that’s will suit my needs please let me know.

I would look at pathfinder boats. Dad had one before he passed away and it could handle rough water.

the skeeter you mentioned is a good choice for what you are trying to do great seating they ride plenty good as they are a liner boat that is a little heavier the 200 is plenty of hp with less load or different propping it would be good an an all around good fishing platform most folks would be pleased with.

The most common fishing boat I see on the Texas coast is Blue Wave. Lots of specialty tunnel hulls, shallow water boats, but most normal hull, center cockpit fishing boats I see are Blue Wave. IslandJim

I really like my Champ. I think it is the perfect size. Handles rough water well. It will handle anything that i want to fish in. Tons of storage (so much that I forget where things are) and a nice rod locker. It is perfect except I violated my rule of never buying a boat that does not have the max HP hanging off the back. I was hoping to get a Skeeter 22' with a 250 but it sold before I could get in touch with the dude. I settled for a 200 on the Champ because of the condition of the boat and bay Champs are kind of tough to find. There was a dude launching his Skeeter at Lavon one day as I was loading up and he said he wished he had a Champ. I did not want to stop in the middle of the ramp and ask him why. One of these days I will just put a 250 power head on it.

Just purchased a 221 Bay by Cobia. 200 Yamaha so far I really like it.
6 people and 2 65q ice chests full of ice and drinks gets on plane fast. Handles waves great not sure how it will be landing larger fish as the sides are deep.
Turning is smooth but not fast.
112 lbs trolling motor 36 volt does a good job in wind.
Good area to stand and fish front and rear.
80 gal fuel tank
Storage could be better had to add numerous cup holders
In 2002 they didn't really do a good job with utilizing space .

Take a look at NauticStar. It is the #1 Bay Boat in Texas. Excellent boats and built to handle rougher waters well.

GULF COAST GREAT BOATS

Nautic Star has been a great boat for us. They are not light boats.

I had a Triton Tr21 for 8 years. I gave up on bass fishing after the first year when i started catching Hybrid and striper. So I had limited days to fish wind wise. Also only could take one person with me. All my fishing buddies have several different Center consoles but the one that i liked the most was the Nauticstar. So in 2018 i got one. I put the big 250 sho on the back of a 22 XTS. It will move the boat 60mph with me and 1/4 tank of gas. I have had it out in 20 to 25 mph winds and it is solid and dry.. Look at Nauticstar it is a great boat.

I also vote Nauticstar. I bought a used 2007 cc2200 bay 4 years ago and love it. I put an Ulterra on it and a t-top. I have had zero issues with it. With the 200 Yamaha it scoots along at 50mph.
The Ulterra was the best investment ever for it.

I would look at Blazer Bay boats. Know several owners including my son who drive and fish the big waters in these boats.

I had a 24' Pathfinder and it did fine in rough water. The hull design was similar to the white NauticStar above. Basically you'll want a deep vee hull for cutting through waves. Generally heavier boats handle waves better than light boats do.

For a drier ride look for a boat with roughly a 3" bow lip like JWC Nauticstar's boat.
