Man, how many drum, cats and strips are in there. Everything munching on that school. 75lbs I’d guess...Nothing was feeding on them. These were all mixed in together laying on the bottom. There were prolly 5 acres of inactive fish 5 ft thick. When you find them like this the graph will look almost like a thermocline line except it’s solid red marks. Fish will get very inactive during the heat of the day especially if there isn’t any wind. You can find them stacked up just laying on the bottom in 30-35 ft where there is no thermocline. Beware though, these can be chuck full of baby blue cats. Also guys, Don’t drop your net on bait balls. Look for bait that is relating to structure and then drop it precisely where you see bait holding on that structure. Bait balls are hard to hit but you can usually hit bait that is on structure.

Very nice!
My hauls are less diverse...and smaller lol. Did get a big lmb in my net on a ramp not long ago. Tore up the net pretty bad. Felt a solid "thump" in the line is it was sinking in new I have problem.
Could've been worse. Not a gar or catfish ball.

No problem DJ I usually got friends and family with me until the cooler weather hits in October . As soon as the fronts start rolling in, most of my friends and family stop wanting to go. Your welcome to tag along but I will warn you, most people don’t like fishing the rollers and the rain like I do!

El gato, do you use Lowrance or humminbird? Bout to put side imaging on my boat and don’t have a clue how to maneuver over top of what I’m seeing, etc.

I’m waiting on my I-link tm and helix 7 mega si to come in any day now. I just don’t know how to use It! Lol. Never had good electronics. Will definitely need a tutorial on proper usage and setup.

Prepare to be overwhelmed with all that technology! Lol. Just watch as many videos and tutorials of your unit as you can and you’ll be fine. Spend time each trip learning a new feature. There is definitely a steep learning curve when you first start running one of these units and they can overwhelm you for sure. Time on the water graphing is the best way to get good at it. If your not catching fish then go graph. Look at bridges, boat ramps, timber, rocks and get a good feel for bottom structure. If your catching fish then graph that area good when you leave and take mental notes of what the bait and fish were doing. As far as learning to ID fish on sonar? Watch lots of videos and drop a deep net for bait. Nothing will teach you to ID fish better than catching exactly what your seeing on sonar in your net. Once you start to build a little confidence in what your looking at the light bulbs will turn on and graphing becomes easy. Good luck amigo!

It can certainly be overwhelming when you first start programming the new unit! I’m running the same as Gato but still find myself fumbling when changing settings. It seemed almost an unfair advantage when I started the new unit. When I mark bigger fish I can zoom in so close you can see details of the fish. Side scan is where it’s at! Many problems arise during install. The transducer may need to be reset numerous times before it’s right. Once on plane it may read different than while drifting, etc.. just ask and someone will surely help out. I’d really advise to go as big a screen as you can afford. My buddy went with a 7 after he saw my 12 in use. Now he’s upgrading a year later simply because fish detail on side scan is really small on the 7. Any way you choose you’ll be amazed in the technology! Good luck with your new acquisition.

I really wanted the link feature but couldn’t afford a bigger screen AND the trolling motor which was $1800. Had I gotten a cheaper trolling motor I definitely would have gone with a bigger one. Hope I don’t regret it.

You will love that 7” when you first get it. It’s a good starter unit. Im with Littlefeather though on screen size. You lose a ton of detail with smaller units and I would have recommended saving up to get at least a 10” screen. You’ll never hear someone say I wish I had a smaller screen.
