Here's a new totally unsubstantiated rumor. Just heard this last night from a buddy that lives on Sandlin.

The power company sold the park and all the land south of the park AND the dam to a private developer who is going to build a gated community with private (and the only) access to the lake.

I don't believe it but the source that told my buddy swears it's true.

There's rumors about the same thing happening to Fairfield, only thing is the State park there and possibly public outcry there might be about closing it "might" prevent that. I hope so we have enjoyed the lake out there and the public deer hunt in the past. I know the state park has quite an annual economic bump to the town.

Thank you Chris. Really appreciate what you are trying to do here one of my favorite lakes in the state many great memories there

Yes kudos to you Gilroy. Hope you can report back with some good news.

I'm "more mature" than many of you on here. By that I mean I started fishing Monty in Nov 1974. I recall vividly because my best bud had just bought a brand new 1974 GMC Pickup and that was our first road trip in it to Monty. We threw a 14' Jonboat in back and launched off the old road bed that ran into the lake in the first cove to the left after you passed under the highway bridge.

I haven't updated TFF in a while on this and don't have anything concrete at this point. However, I did want to let everyone know that we are working on 2 very specific potential solutions to getting access to Monticello restored. I don't think this is going to be a really fast thing, but we are hoping to have more clarity on a solution in the next month or so. I am not giving up on this until we have exhausted every possible solution. Have too many memories and spend too many days a year on this awesome little lake to give up without giving it everything we have.

Once I know more, I will post an update.

Hoping for the best.
I remember many days of fishing out there. Ice in the guides and on the deck, hammering the fish.

I guess time really does change everything.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.
Bill Shakespeare
